A Haute Second with Spencer: The Emmys 2017

Finally, we are here! Welcome to the “Haute Second with Spencer” Emmys 2017 Edition! Guys, I have been eagerly tearing away at my calendar for weeks. The Emmys were perfect this year! Stephen Colbert was an incredible host. I was very pleased to see Saturday Night Live win all of its awards. Kate McKinnon is a national treasure. Congratulations to everyone at The Handmaid’s Tale. The show was phenomenal! John Oliver killed it and I am very proud to be a fan of his show. I am still having a hard time breathing after seeing Dolly, Jane, and Lily all together on stage… I will say though, Millie Bobby Brown was robbed! I don’t think I will ever get over Millie losing that award. I also think Feud was robbed. I get everyone loves Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon… but Jessica Lange and Susan Surandon guys! Oh, and do not get me started on RuPaul’s Drag Race losing to The Voice. What the hell was that about? But lets talk about why I am really here…. THE RED CARPET. The fashion this year was amazing and I loved every second of it. Lucky for you guys, I have gathered the top looks so let’s just jump right into it.

Yvonne Strahovski wearing Julien Macdonald

I love this gown! It is a very simple concept but Yvonne Strahovski wears it very well! The plunging neckline is just what I need, and I love that choker. So fierce! I also love the wrap skirt. Julien Macdonald took something very simple and really made it work. I also love the slicked hair, you can never go wrong with that. Yvonne was incredible in The Handmaid’s Tale and I can’t wait to see what she brings to season 2. You go girl!

All hail the queen, Millie Bobby Brown. I said it once, and I will say it again… Millie was robbed. She deserved the award, hands down.  I don’t think there is anyone that can convince me otherwise. Alright in terms of fashion, Millie killed it as always. This isn’t my favorite look on her, but that doesn’t really say a lot because she always looks flawless. I guess I just wish the hem grazed the carpet. But Millie looks incredible and this dress is cute. Fantastic job. I’m hoping you’ll get an award after next season…

Angela Sarafyan wearing Elizabeth Kennedy

Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic.

Yo, it is truly my honor to have the chance to spotlight Angela Sarafyan on this edition. Angela is by far one of the most beautiful girls in existence and I am getting butterflies just writing this. Wow, okay. This dress is beautiful. I love the hem and the over-the-shoulder concept. Her hair… her skin… her body… Just all around amazing. I love all of this. Okay, I am going to rewatch Westworld now..

Kate McKinnon wearing Narciso Rodriguez

Kate McKinnon is flawless. I can’t get over her winning another award. She deserves the world. I loved her speech by the way. The little shout out to Hillary gave me all of the feels. I love this dress on Kate, way more than her look from last year. It is so simple but so cute on her. Honestly can she do anything wrong?

Leslie Jones wearing Cristian Siriano

I am still gagged over this look. Leslie Jones turned it OUT. I was not expecting to see Leslie Jones on my Best Dressed list this weekend but she slayed. Everything about this look is perfect. I love her hair, the jewels, the black crystal, the mesh, the hem…. Oh my is this real?  It seems just like yesterday when no one wanted to dress Leslie for award shows and not she is out here owning the damn carpet. Leslie is a star and she deserves all of the praise. Honestly Leslie deserved that award just as much as Kate so Leslie should be so proud of herself.

Shailene Woodley wearing Ralph Lauren

This dress is so cute on Shailene Woodley. Once again, very minimalist but it looks very expensive and classic. I love the dark green and the way it glows on the carpet.

Nicole Kidman wearing Custom Calvin Klein

When I saw Nicole Kidman show up in this red dress, I knew for sure she was going to win Best Drama Actress. She looks amazing.  Have we ever seen Nicole show up to a award show and look amazing? I do wish this gown hit the carpet as well but she looks so good, she can get away with it. Jolly good show Nicole. Another point for Calvin Klein who also dressed Millie Bobby Brown!

Viola Davis wearing Zac Posen

Viola Davis is in the house and she looks great! I can’t get over that train. This is definitely a Zac Posen gown. I am not a huge fan of the bodice. I feel like the tucks in the neckline make this look kind of bulky, but other than that Viola looks amazing. I can’t wait for How to Get Away with Murder.

Evan Rachel Wood wearing Moschino

I am obsessed with Evan Rachel Wood in Moschino. Evan looks totally rad. I knew right off the bat that this was Moschino. It literally has Jeremy Scott written all over it. My favorite thing about this look is that Evan’s character in Westworld is very Little House on the Prairie… then she walks the red carpet looking like a fashion gangster and I love it. I was kind of hoping she would win tonight but honestly this show is only going to get bigger so I am sure she will have more choices.

Sarah Paulson wearing Carolina Herrera

Oh boy I think I am going to faint. As president of the Pasadena Chapter of the Sarah Paulson fan club, I just have to point out how flawless Sarah is. This look is DOPE. But why is it no one wanted their gowns to touch the carpet. I am starting to think the Emmys carpet is really dirty or something? Anyways, aside from the hem Sarah looks amazing. She is by far one of my favorite people in film/television and it feels like a treat every time I get to see her. You go Sarah.

Thandie Newton wearing Jason Wu

Frazer Harrison/Getty Images.

Yes! Thandie Newton everyone. I am obsessed with Thandie right now. She is by far my favorite character in Westworld, and I feel that it is offensive that the Televison Academy put down Thandie as a Supporting Actress when she just as much deserved Lead actress like Evan. Thandie is f***ing bad-ass. In terms of fashion, this look is amazing. Its simple. A tube top bodice with a very full skirt. But the color and the sparkle really brings out Thandie’s personality therefore making this one of of the best looks on the carpet. You are everything!

Jessica Biel wearing Ralph & Russo

Frazer Harrison/Getty Images.

Jessica Biel is here! I can not get over her hair, it is so freaking cool! Honestly, I am a little on the fence about this dress.  I guess I am just not a huge fan of the contrasting fabrics combined together. I think the dress would have been beautiful with just the silver fabric. That being said I am just going to imagine this whole look is silver…. it’s great!

Tessa Thompson wearing Rosie Assoulin

Wow this gown is freaking cool. I feel like I am in a trance by these colors. I think I love this so much because I was not expecting to see Tessa kill it so hard on the carpet. This dress is beautiful. I think maybe her makeup looks a little understated. But all in all I love this look.

Jessica Lange wearing Gucci

Is the room spinning.? I think I am blacking out. Jessica Lange looks amazing in Gucci.  I just simply can’t find words for how I feel about this look. Her look is so dark and powerful, yet she looks so elegant and divine. I am still pretty upset about Feud not getting any recognition at this years awards. But seeing Jessica glide across the carpet like this kind of makes the pain a little less… at least on my side. Jessica and Susan both deserved awards for their roles as Joan and Bette. But whatever. I know what is right in my heart.

Do you believe me now? This red carpet was amazing! I am nervous because I am about to pick  a top three but I am not sure where to to even start…  There are so many potential candidates. Alright lets do it…. My top three looks of the night must go to….

Top Three Looks of The Emmys 2017 Red Carpet

These three really blew my mind tonight. Each one of these ladies took my breath away when I saw them. I just…. need to stand up and slow clap for each of them because they are the true winners on this years red carpet!
