This week I got to speak with my good friend, Tranna Wintour. When I heard that she had a new show hitting the streets, I just had to hear from the queen herself about what to expect from the new show! Ladies and Gentleman, Tranna Wintour!
Spencer: Tranna Wintour! Over year ago we were chatting about your inspirations (Check that interview out here!) and Cher, and here were are today! Isn’t that amazing! How have you been my dear?
Tranna: I’ve been great, keeping busy! How have you been?
S: I have been great! Keeping busy is my middle name. So Tranna tell me about your new show,”Trantasy”!
T: I’m doing my new show, “Trantasy”, as part of the Montreal Fringe Festival. This show is a culmination of everything I’ve been working on over the past two years. I’m bringing together all my best material, throwing in some new stuff and new musical performances and centering it all, loosely, around the theme of fantasy. I think that ultimately our fantasies are the most real and authentic parts of ourselves, and yet most of our fantasies are secrets, or things we tend to hide. This show is all about living your fantasies out loud.
S: I absolutely love the idea behind your show and I think there might be a great lesson the audience can take from this show. So how would you describe your fantasy then?
T: My biggest fantasy growing up was to be a performer. For so many reasons, and for many years, I didn’t think I could ever make it happen. But now I am living that fantasy and making it a reality and that is still so surreal for me to even say out loud. Every time–or almost every time–I get on stage, it’s like the dream comes true all over again and it’s the best feeling. Of course I have so many fantasies that I have yet to make a reality–I need to meet Anna Wintour face to face. That is one of my biggest fantasies, just to be in her presence. And possibly my biggest fantasy of all is having ice cream with Mariah Carey.
S: I am so very happy for you. I have been so happy to see your career progress and I have complete faith that you are going to get bigger and bigger as the years go on…fame wise of course. Also I think it is amazing that your biggest fantasy is to have ice cream with Mariah Carey because I aspire to share a burger with Cyndi Lauper, Donatella, Cher, and so on…
T: I feel you! All of my biggest fantasies are sharing some kind of meal or a drink with my favorite people–Kylie, Cher, Liza, Barbra. All my favorite divas are 65+, I’m so worried they’re going to die before I get to meet them!
S: So from what I understand, you are doing a ton of shows soon. Want to give me an idea of what Tranna Wintour’s schedule looks like?
T: I’ll be doing 9 performances of “TRANTASY”, kicking off Thursday June 4th up until June 21st. All the details and ticket info can be found on my website, trannawintour.com!
S: Yes! Well I am sure the show is going to amazing and we all cannot wait to see it! I think since this is our third interview together we should do something different. Rapid Fire Questions!
What would be on your most perfect burger?
T: There’s nothing I love more than a good burger, but I like to keep it simple–bacon, ketchup and mustard.
S: Cher does another farewell tour, what song do you want her to open and close with?
T: Open with “The Music’s No Good Without You” and honestly, nothing could beat her last closer, “I Hope You Find It.”
S: Favorite fashion label?
T: Jean Paul Gaultier
S: Best Ice cream flavor?
S: What is your favorite joke?
T: I can’t think of any because I don’t really like one-liners, but my favorite comedy performances are Margaret Cho’s “Notorious C.H.O” and Sandra Bernhard’s “I’m Still Here Damn It.”
S: Well Tranna as always, it has been a ball! I cannot wait to hear about your show as well as our next interview!
T: Thanks so much, Spencer! Good luck with all your projects and keep in touch!
