To Top

Now if you knew me, you would know that all I listen to is music from the 80′s with the exception of a few artists like Lady Gaga, Robyn, Lana Del Rey, and Amy Winehouse. So the other day while playing through my shower playlist and doing a sickening lip-sync to “If I Could Turn Back Time”, I realized that my taste in 80′s music was so exceptional that I just had to break it down for you guys and explain who I think the top six artists were and why! Now of course there are so many I could choose to put on this countdown, but I have to cap it off somewhere!  The Top Six Artists that made me WISH I was alive during the 80’s! Lets get into it!

    5. Paula Abdul

Coming in at number five, is forever your girl, PAULA ABDUL! I am a huge Paula Abdul fan! Her music is just so fun and she is an amazing choreographer. Paula Abdul is a titan in the music video industry and has enough awards to support  her tempurpedic mattress, including a Grammy! Her debut album, “Forever Your Girl” was a huge success and has brought many hit songs into the world that we all know and love!

She came out with several hit songs during the 80’s like “Straight Up”, “Cold Hearted”, “Opposites Attract” and “The Way That You Love Me”! (Sorry.. Vibeology is from the 90’s otherwise I would talk about that song for several paragraphs) I’m sure you love and know all of these songs just as much as I do! If you don’t know these songs… just watch a few seasons of RuPaul’s Drag Race.. you are bound to hear one or two! Check out the music video that still has people either raving about or shrieking in painful 80’s flashbacks, Opposites Attract!

Now because I am feeling rather generous today, I am not going to cut off this week yet! Want to find out who made the fourth spot on this countdown!? Well you are in luck!

    4. Janet Jackson

No her first name aint baby, it’s Janet, Ms.Jackson if you nasty! Yes! Coming in at number four, is the legendary Janet Jackson. Now I know Janet and Paula are both very similar and I spent quite some time trying to decide who to put in front of who and really it just came down to who had the most plays on my iTunes, which ended up being Janet!

Janet Jackson is one of the best performers this world has seen. No, I am not just referring to her nip slip during the Super Bowl, I am talking about the collection of fierce music, flawless music videos, and sickening outfits which in my opinion, makes her more of an interesting artist than her dear brother (Don’t get out the pitchforks just yet, I love me some MJ but….)

Janet brought many hit songs to the table that I listen to almost daily. For example we have songs such as, “Nasty”, “Pleasure Principle”, “What Have You Done For Me Lately”, and “Rhythm Nation”. Janet is so addicting, I can’t tell you how many hours a day I imagine myself as Janet during her “Rhythm Nation” while I am in the shower…Come on, are you trying to tell me you don’t do the same thing? Well watch the video right here and dare tell me why I am doing the wrong thing.

Well that’s that for this week of my 80’s countdown! Still hungry for more 80’s artists, come back next week to find out who is coming in at number 3 on the countdown!! The suspense must be killing you! Missed last weeks countdown? Check it out here.
