Game of Thrones –
The Watchers on the Wall
Ah, the infamous episode 9. Quick recap of the past three penultimate episodes of Game of Thrones:
Season 1: Ned Stark, our main character, is beheaded.
Season 2: A massive battle happens in one of TVs most epic hours ever.
Season 3: I’m sorry…I can’t…I still just can’t. You know what happened.
And now season 4’s episode 9 has occurred, in a similar fashion to season 2’s. It was all dedicated to one location. This episode, while action packed, still felt reserved. Yeah, it was violent but if you compare it to Blackwater, this felt tame and actually a bit anticlimactic. It was like, “Siege done. Bye bye.”
That said it was worth it for one reason: Jon Snow finally stepped it up. I have a feeling he might get moved forward in terms of how much of the show he carries, especially if we have a beheading next week.
I typically hate Sam, but, not unlike Dany, the actor playing Sam makes him heard to dislike, especially here.
The Ygritte stuff was indeed sad, but their romance’s end was touching. I will say I think that consistency in how much we saw of her and how much we saw that Jon thought of her, might have helped strengthen the moment.
In summation, “Watchers on the Wall”, has told us:
“Cannibals, and giants, and mammoths, OH MY! Hey Sam, Oberyn promised Ellaria he wasn’t gonna leave her too…jus’ sayin. Everyone at the wall might suck at fighting but they are experts at shouting motivating monologues. So wait…Mance has 100,000 men and sent less than 100 to over take the wall? Should we really be sad Ygritte is dead, she did kill a LOT of people en route to her Snow man. The real tragedy: She’ll never see Jon Snow know anything.”
We have one more to go, next week, if I had to guess…it’s gonna end good. Wait…one more left? Chiffon…does that mean I’m out of a job?
Keep geek.
