Game of Thrones –
The Children

There was only one way to close out the massive undertaking that was season 4 of Game of Thrones…and they gave it to us last night. Enough intro…let’s get into it. Cue my music!

…still…no music? Ok…Chiffon we are so renegotiating for next season.

Obviously the big news outta this is how Tyrion kept his head…yet again. His heart-wrenching murder of Shae and oh so satisfying end of his father were carried by the emotional depth that Peter Dinklage brought to each of the moments. They had the same end result but were totally different on the emotional scale. He might not have been executed but the Tyrion we once knew is gone and we now have an extremely exciting new direction: Tyrion Lannister: Fugitive of the crown. It has been refreshing this season to remember that even though we’ve gotten a lot of great characters since the start, Tyrion is always the one to watch

The second major thing was Arya begins to make her way to Braavos….finally. Not after she, much like Tyrion, left the life she once knew. When the Hound spoke to Brienne and mentioned what Arya has lost, that really seemed to be the spark that ignited her journey’s next step. I know some are upset the way she treated Sandor by denying him death but to be fair, he was on her list and “the North remembers.”

Speaking of Brienne: That fight was brutal and wonderful. It was an addition for the show and it continued the TV shows great tradition of adding new stuff and improving upon source material.

The best part of the Daenerys storyline will always be Emilia Clarke. I am really loving that they are showing Dany losing control of her life. After the season she has had, Dany’s sad ending had better change her for the best or she is doomed before she can try and get to Westeros.

The message from Wall, and beyond, last night was this: if you’ve been treating Bran and Jon’s storyline as a bathroom break…start holding it.

Oh…and Lena Heady…everything you did was magic.

In summation, The Children, has told us:

“A woman who worships flames at a Wall of ice…the countdown to hijinks ensuing has begun! Lena Heady has perfected sauntering around giving you Emmy award moments. RIP Jojen #sadface. Oh hey Three Eyed Crow #creepyface. Dany…shut your crying up and get your life…oh and maybe find your missing dragon. Hey Brienne , maybe the best way to get Arya to go with you is to not beat her companion to death, then manically scream her name, just a thought. Tyrion just…all the feels…quite literally. Wait…what do you mean I have to wait a fucking year?!”

Ok, folks, that was our season. It was, in my opinion, the best season yet, with the best finale. It was consistent in the story it told, while meeting and raising the standard of the show. The theme of this season was very much the closing of one chapter and the beginning of another. I just can’t wait to turn the page.
