True Blood –
Fire in the Hole
Hmmmm.
That feels like a good way to start this.
While there was some really good stuff here, it’s really hard to get excited about it because the soap opera stuff just undid it. Let me dive in with the water cooler worthy and the good.
With Alcide dying, a chapter of the show closes. A bad chapter that arguably was what derailed it to begin with in season 3: The werewolves. What is a shame is that if the show was more consistent, Alicide’s death might have been much more impactful, but after everything, he went out with a shrug.
Really enjoyed the Lafayette stuff. Really really did. Anything he has done in the last seven seasons of the show has felt like the most genuine thing the show does. It seems like they are going soap opera love triangle with him, which, weird, and it still could work cause he isn’t the main storyline.
Such is NOT the case with Sookie and Bill and it hasn’t been for years. That’s the problem, the do the kinda stuff like the weird “getting to know each other again/clean slate stuff.” We’ve seen this before and now, with Alicide’s death, we can guess what it will inevitably lead to.
The Eric scene with Pam woulda been near perfect had it not been for the BLATENT “HEP V is HIV” dialogue that brought it down. It made no sense and really killed the momentum.
The overall great stuff is coming from the performances of the actors. The show has a great pool of talent and when they get solid stuff, it all just clicks.
In summation, Fire in the Hole, has told us
“We were right to think last season wasn’t it for the Newlins. For anyone holding out hope, stop. Tara really is dead. HIV=HEP-V because reasons? That seduction in the vineyard scene was either meant to be old school vampire romance cheesy…or was legit bad. Ugh…remember how Nan used to rock. Damn…Tru Blood Inc. doesn’t play. Sam’s vampire was adorable…the TEA party metaphor…still does not. Don’t ya just wanna live with Lafayette. Vampires can smoke weed but not swallow pills…ok…sure. It’s ok to feel great satisfaction at the death of Mama Fortenberry, we were owed that. Sweet Six Flags product placement. Oh and not to be that guy but um…called it two ‘Blood Lusts back.’ #RIPALCIDE”
With another major character gone and race against the clock time frame, we appear to have a direction.
Keep geek.
