Hello Chiffon, I’m doing well, thanks for asking! I have to say I have no idea why you would be scared.. It’s not like I eat poop dressed as elderly women or anything crazy like that. I am glad to hear you’re excited though that makes me feel relevant!
Oh yes, very relevant! In fact, of all the interviews we’re doing with the Miss NotSafe4Werk.com gurls, this is definitely one of them! So let’s start from the very beginning where are you from?
Well, I was born in Citrus Heights California, which is right outside of Sacramento. And I’ve been here all thirteen years of my life.
*Ahem* Yes, sure honey. What was your first exposure to drag? When did you get lured in by the siren’s call of foam hips and multiple pairs of pantyhose?
When I was about fourteen I had found a bunch of old makeup from the 80s in my grandmothers house. And I started playing with it every day! One of the first “drag” looks I did was a character from “Peewee’s Playhouse” named Jambi. I know SHOCKING! Luna Nova does a character! Starting out I just had a huge passion for makeup. And I wanted to work in the beauty industry so badly. But I never had models or even a whole lot of friends who were dying for me to paint them with giant creases and Cher cheeks. So I continued doing girl makeup on myself almost every night. And it just evolved from there, I started playing with wigs and dresses and finally after years of contractions and dilating.. I gave birth to LUNA!
I can’t even imagine how terrifying the birth of Luna must have been. How quickly did it take you to figure out who Luna is? What would you say your personal style of drag is?
It was pretty terrifying! When I came out, the doctor cut my crease and slapped my padded bum. Starting out was honestly a nightmare for me! Even though I had a some what steady hand with makeup and little knowledge with wigs and style I was an AWKWARD ASS drag baby! Let’s just start with the fact that I had braces then…no performing experience or even an ounce of personality. It took me a long time to find where I fit in with style and performance. I met a local day time prostitute along the way who now goes by the name “Anita Procedure”. Anita happened to do a lot of theatric drag at the time, and really helped me open my eyes to a whole new world of performing that was right up my ass… I mean alley. I would say my personal style of drag now is whatever is on sale and I can fit over my hips..
There are things that fit over those hips? I just assumed nothing form fitting would make it over them and that’s why you went with the poofy ballgown for evening gown. See that flawless segue I made to the Miss NotSafe4Werk.com pageant? What made you want to compete in a first time, online drag pageant?
I think over the last few years drag has become such a big thing thanks to social media, and “Rupaul’s Drag Race” of course. And with this pageant being online, it’s allowed members of my family and friends to actually have a look into my world and the world of drag and get a better understanding of what it is I actually do with the comfort of sitting on a toilet seat and not in a crowded gay bar! And that’s really I why I chose to participate in it. I think it’s the first of its kind and one of many to come!
The sitting on the toilet while competing option was real big selling point of the pageant to use all. How would you characterize your experience in the pageant? What was the most enjoyable part of it for you? What about the most challenging?
Going into to this pageant, I knew I was up for a big challenge with my zero video editing experience and a fan base made up of my boy self and my mom but I made do with what I had week after week. My most enjoyable week was the swimsuit challenge! Although I lost my other wig and earirng to the roaring rapids. I loved filming on the water and just being my goofy self for that week. Oh and as a competitive swimmer, my whole childhood finally became useful for something! I think the most challenging part of this was me getting too much in my own head. I’ve always been the type of person to try and set my self apart from other people. I would say obscurity is defiantly one of my features. But sometimes I second guess myself and underestimate the power of simplicity. Haha!
I’m sure that’s just the reason your mom put you in swimming lessons as a child! So overall, were you happy with how you did? Was it a positive experience for you overall? If you could change one thing about the pageant, what would you change?
I was really impressed with myself at the end. I tried my hardest each week to show diversity but stay true to myself and I think I did an alright job. It was a very positive experience like I said, sharing it with my family, friends and coworkers was just so cool! I don’t think I would change a thing about this pageant. It really was an amazing experience and I’m so proud of my sisters, the judges, and everyone who made this happen!
What future goals do you have for yourself as a drag queen?
Like most queens “Rupaul’s Drag Race” is definitely a big goal I have for myself. But I think for right now I still have a lot of maturing and growth to do with my drag. I’ve recently been inspired to start a YouTube channel and continue making videos of whatever pops in my big fat head. I’d also like to try and break into “stand up comedy”! It’s a goal I’ve had for a long time and is something I know will challenge me!
Luna, thank you so much for being a part of our first ever pageant. You have legitimately made me belly laugh on numerous occasions. I am definitely a fan of yours and not just because you have an ample rear end just like I do. I can’t wait to see what you do next.
