On October 16, 2015, Florence and The Machine took the “How Big, How Blue” tour to the Hollywood Bowl for a 2-Night extravaganza! Since the day Florence performed “The Dog Days are Over” at the 2010 VMA’s, I knew it needed to be a goal to see the goddess perform in the flesh. Luckily, my chance came and Florence definitely did not disappoint.
It was a perfect night for a concert at the Bowl. It was neither too hot, nor was it too cold. I got there right in time to see the opening act, The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger. As opening acts go, they were okay… nothing too spectacular I have to say. But some people were enjoying it so that was a good sign for them. You can’t impress everybody. But the anticipation for Florence and the Machine was out of this world. Now let me fill you in on a amazing story, our seats in the center of the Bowl, were in the second row behind a small platform. It was pretty far back from the stage, but it had lights on it. Why would there be lights on it if they were not pointing toward the stage? I wonder. More on this later.
Finally, the queen came out to “What the Water Gave Me”. Her voice is even more amazing when she is live and her energy was outstanding. There she was….dancing, flipping her hair, running, jumping. I mean no one has the energy on stage like Florence Welch does.
After a amazing performance of “Ship to Wreck” , which I had so much anticipation for, Florence started to sing “Rabbit Heart”. It was a beautiful song and I totally was in love. If you follow Florence at all, you would know that she loves to move around during her performance. She even broke her leg at Coachella because she jumped off the stage and started running. Well, during “Rabbit Heart,” I saw Florence jump into the crowd. Where did she go!? Suddenly, we could see a spotlight in the crowd running toward us. I could not stay calm. Then it went dark and she vanished. Next thing you know, she is climbing up onto the platform in front of me that I mentioned earlier! Florence Welch was right in front of me. She sang, she bowed, she danced! It was one of the most beautiful moments of my life. I have never been such a fan girl in my life. I am pretty positive I cried, like a twelve year old girl sitting front row at a One Direction concert. Here is video proof. Yes, that is me screaming probably.

The concert went on from there and she performed so many of her hits! We saw the always wonderful, “You’ve Got the Love”, “How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful”, “Cosmic Love”, and of course “The Dog Days Are Over” and much more. There really wasn’t a single dull moment. I could have watched her all night long. Her encore included “What Kind of Man” and “Drumming Song”, which basically put the audience in their graves at this point. She was absolutely perfect.
If I had any complaints, it would just be that I wish I got to hear more song off of “Ceremonials”, specifically “Only If For A Night”, because I love that song so much, but overall Florence killed it. It was a religious experience. Florence electrified the night with her amazing vocals, her free dance moves, and most of all, her energy. No one can get a crowd feeling so free like Florence Welch can. Especially seeing her at the exact place that inspired the title song of her new album, right between a crucifix and the Hollywood sign. This was definitely one of the best concerts I have ever been to and I have seen a lot of artists. If you get a chance to see Florence and the Machine live sometime, I recommend you do it as soon as possible, I know I will be.
