Welcome to another (slightly late) Week In Drag!
Huge news this week! It’s finally here! Well, almost. This week marked the premiere party for Season 8 of RuPaul’s Drag Race in New York. We saw some stunning looks at on the red carpet, my particular favourites being Kim Chi, Bob and Naomi! (who also happen to be my bid for Top 3). Those who attended the premiere party got to see a preview of the first episode, including the first mini and main challenge. I won’t give away any spoilers, but S8 has really stepped up it’s game!
The past week also marked New York Fashion Week. Marc Jacobs Fall 2016 collection was launched in an incredibly iconic runway show, including the likes of Kendall Jenner and Lady Gaga walking the runway. Attending the show were some familiar faces, including Milk, Miss Fame and Violet Chachki, who broke us all with these STUNNING looks.
Drag legend Miss Coco Peru launched a Kickstarter this week! The fundraiser is to help Coco Peru film a pilot of her show “Conversations with Coco”, in which she’ll host a chat show featuring celebrity guests. Some of the proceeds will go to the Los Angeles LGBT Center! Having already reached over half of her goal of $80k, we wish Coco the best! Donate to her Kickstarter here.
Also this week, if the “Divas of Drag” tour didn’t already look absolutely incredible, they’ve launched a competition in which local drag queens across the USA can enter to support the show! The national tour including Yara Sofia, Trixie Mattel, Milk, Latrice Royale, Jujubee, Mimi Imfurst and many many MANY more queens is looking for local talent to warm up the crowd for them. To enter the contest, simply place a photo of yourself in drag over the yellow square and tag @DivasOfDrag on IG and add the hashtag #DIVASofDRAGcontest. I was lucky to get a few words with Mimi about their exciting contest today!
“One of our goals of The Divas of Drag tour is to celebrate the diverse talent the drag community has to offer. That means not only will our show star some of the biggest national drag queen headliners, but also provide a huge platform to highlight the amazing local talent across the country- because they too are stars.”I’m really overwhelmed by the responce of amazing drag talent across this country that wants to be a part of the DIVAS of DRAG, its going to be very hard to pick from the girls!”
Finally, this week Sharon Needles took to the sparkly sofa of Hey Qween for the shows 4th season premiere! Looking absolutely gorgeous, Sharon opened up to host Jonny McGovern, talking about her past, winning Drag Race, her sophomore record Taxidermy and much more. The interview was a lovely look into Sharon captivating personality, and one of my all time favourite Hey Qween episodes!
