Hello to all my friends and viewers! I am glad to be back again to discuss once again, the fashion of the Video Music Awards 2016 hosted by MTV. Now, I am here to talk about fashion so I am going to refrain from discussing the fact that SIA and FLORENCE WELCH WERE BOTH ROBBED ONCE AGAIN… Oh ahem, sorry… I’ll keep it cool. Anyways, on with the VMA’s!
The top looks I am providing to you are in no particular order.
1 – Beyonce wearing Francesco Scognamiglio
The star of tonight was Beyonce. At this point, she officially has enough VMA awards to build the foundation of a new mansion. I had a strong feeling that there was no way anyone else would be winning awards with Beyonce on the scene. From the beginning, pre-awards show news were calling it with headlines like: “2016 is set to be Beyonce’s year“, making it clear that hardly anyone has a chance when put up against the Queen Bee. Not only did she give another Super Bowl worthy performance, but she also stunned on the carpet. This naked straight dress by Francesco Scognamiglio was absolutely gorgeous from head to toe. Beyonce actually looks like she is here from the after life to grace us with a performance before she ascends back into the heavens. Perfection.
2- Hailey Baldwin wearing Georges Chakra F/W 16-17
Hailey Baldwin was stunning in a beautiful Georges Chakra jumpsuit. I loved this ensemble because it was very graceful, yet still very risque and perfect for the VMA’s. The feather details are so tragically beautiful. It’s a really nice take on the modern jumpsuit really. I just wish the black undergarments were a little bit skinnier. If you are going to go there with that jumpsuit, go ALL THE WAY. Vogue even went on to highlight Hailey as one of the nights best dressed! I need one of these sent to me as soon as possible. Great job Hailey!
3- Holland Roden in Naeem Khan
The Teen Wolf star looked like an angel in her white Naeem Khan gown. The slit in the side seam creating a low armhole is a trending look in fashion right now and this is done entirely right. I love this look. I wish her shoes were a bit more on the grand side. But all in all, this was one of the top looks of the night for me.
4- Nicki Minaj wearing Bao Tranchi
Nicki Minaj was giving you body for days. The rapper went underwear-free on the carpet Sunday night in a blue Bao Tranchi gown and it worked in every sort of the way. The mesh on the side of the gown make this whole thing perfect. I also love the symmetrical design in the bodice. This gown shows how to perfectly execute the use of mesh. The Huffington Post noted Nicki as having one of the most memorable ensembles of the year. Nicki kills it every year.
5- Chloe and Halle Bailey wearing Rodarte and Erickson Beamon Jewelry
I thought the two sisters looked amazing! What really got me was the jewelry. I absolutely love it. I think maybe a little less would have been more aka the sleeves… But all in all, Rodarte really pulled through for both of them. True beauties. The VMA’s are not worthy of their grace.
6- Naomi Campbell in Brandon Maxwell
Brandon Maxwell strikes again. Known for dressing Gaga, Brandon hooked up one of the original supermodels with a cute green dress. Naomi looked amazing in the green mini dress. Usually I’m not a huge fan of this bodice design but really anything could look good on Naomi. This woman will never not look good. Vogue also agrees with me, noting that Naomi’s look was “scene stealing”. Also, shout out to Naomi Campbell for being able to make green actually look good.
7- Britney Spears wearing Versace
Oh snap! Donatella is in the house tonight on Brit Brit! I am not worthy. This dress featured the classic Versace cut-out from the shoulder into the hip. We also see a high-low aspect here from the hip to the knee and I just love this. We all know Versace is my favorite label and to me it is just so obvious why. Those who wear Versace, just look the best in my opinion. Well, except that time Katy Perry wore all denim but we don’t need to talk about that.
8- Halsey wearing Yosef Al-Jasmi
Halsey is my new girl crush and no this has nothing to do with the fact that this jumpsuit is basically see-through. I loved the crystal look of the fabric. The crystalline aura of her dress combined with the grunge makeup and dark hair is basically a match made in heaven. Plus the transparency is perfect. Halsey, welcome to my celebrity crush list! I apologize in advance.
9- Hailee Steinfeld wearing Balmain
Hailee is wearing a very typical Balmain dress. The classic mini dress silhouette of Balmain creates a strong shoulder and highlights the legs and thats just what happened on Hailee. I loved the revealed skin on the inner side of her arm. That was a great addition to the construction. I’m not too crazy about the colors for some reason. There weren’t a lot of patterns this year so Hailee really stood out in that sense.
10- RuPaul’s Drag Race All-Stars of Season 2
I can’t leave out the All-Stars! The stars of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 2 looked sickening recreating classic VMA looks! But the standouts in my opinion were Tatianna, Phi Phi O’Hara serving Lady Gaga‘s meat dress realness and Alaska as Britney Spears. Phi Phi’s cosplay abilities are phenomenal and I don’t think there is a look that Phi Phi couldn’t accomplish. Alaska deserves an award for that fake boa. Of course, my friend Tatianna looks stunning and I am in heaven with all of this new attention she is getting due to the new All-Star season and her immense amount of talent. Can I say, I told you so? Oh wait I did, right here in my interview with Tatianna! This picture of the queens is basically everything.
The top three of this edition of “A Haute Second with Spencer” was a piece of cake. Beyonce, Hailey, and Britney were the best dressed in my opinion with Halsey trailing close behind. Look at these three girls go!
Now I want to hear from you guys! Vote in the poll below and go off in the comments. Tell the world who YOU think was the best dressed and we will announce the winner after a few days! Thank you all so much for once again reading and being a part of another special red carpet edition of “Haute Second with Spencer“.
