Welcome back to #THEWEEKINDRAG! This week I’ll be covering the launch of Miss WERRRK.com 2016, Instagram censorship, So You Think You Can Drag finale and much more!
Of course I have to start this week’s recap with the launch of our very own Miss WERRRK.com 2016 pageant! The online pageant welcomes queens from all over the USA and Canada to 7 weeks of themed category presentations to win the title of Miss WERRRK.com 2016. This years contestants are Aurora Gozmic, Blake Deadly, Elle Taylor, Ivory Towers, Kristi Davidson, Mia E Z’Lay, Oriana Peron and Shakayla MoNae. This past weeks themed category presentation was Disney Villain realness! My standards as a judge were incredibly high this week, due to being a self proclaimed Disney fanatic, and the girls went above and beyond my expectations! Every single one of them blew it out of the water, showcasing a variety of characters, from gender bending male villains such as Hades, Captain Hook, Scar and Gaston as well as bringing classic queens of darkness to life, such as Yzma, Cruella De Vil, Mother Gothel and the Old Hag. This weeks presentation has just been announced, with the themed category being Pure Lip Sync Talent! Check out last weeks villains showcase here, and this weeks category here, and make sure you vote for your favourite!
Over on my side of the pond, gin-addled cabaret legend Joe Black launched his brand new solo show,”Meet Me at the Eldorado“. The tour has already visited Southampton, Portsmouth and Manchester amongst others and is set to cover various other venues up and down the UK. I was lucky enough to attend the Portsmouth date and the show is certainly not one to miss. Black tells the story of the Eldorado, a cabaret club in Berlin which was shut down due to the Nazi party coming into power. The show is hauntingly beautiful, with a combination of songs set to make you laugh as well as take you to another place and era entirely, I completely forgot I wasn’t in 1920’s Germany. There was even a celebrity appearance (even though they’ve been dead for 24 years). Joe has been dubbed “the king of the cabaret noir” and this latest solo show continues to hold that reigning title. Congratulations on the wonderful show Joe, and have a wonderful rest of tour! Click here for information and tickets.
This past week, London based queen of the surreal and bizarre Meth has been the subject of social media censorship. Mistress of the prestigious night the Meth Lab and more recently the successful Her Upstairs has had her Instagram account mysteriously removed with no prior warning. Some may find the subject of social media quite trivial, however in our current day and age social media can be the pinnacle of getting ones self out into the world. Especially when concerning performers and queens, there can be no denying to the importance of social media pages, as they are often used to share one’s art and thus lead to work opportunities. Aside from being told that her account violated terms of service, Meth has been left with no specific reason for having her account removed. Due to this, online outrage from fans and friends alike has sparked. People have taken to Twitter and Instagram demanding them to bring back Meth’s account, accompanied with the hastag #BringMethBack. Here’s hoping Meth gains access to her account in the near future!

This past week also marked the finale of the 7th season ‘s “So You Think You Can Drag?“! The 9 week long competition hosted and produced by Paige Turner came to it’s crescendo at New World Stages in the heart of Manhattan last week, with the two finalists lip syncing for the crown. After wowing the crowd earlier in the night with an amazing “Hello Dolly“-Carol Channing number, Vicky Boofont narrowly edged Gloria Swansong in an incredibly close “Let It Go” remix lip synch battle to claim the crown! Congratulations Vicky and to all the fabulous queens who competed this season!

With Halloween season coming to an end (real tears) Christmas is fast approaching and a sure indicator of this is the drop of Christmas Queens 2! The album produced by Producer Entertainment is a follow up album of last years successful Christmas Queens, with the second edition having a staggering 30 tracks! The albums includes All Stars 2 winner Alaska Thunderfuck, as well as a dazzling lineup including Sharon Needles, Katya, Jackie Beat, Jinkx Monsoon and many more. Accompanying the album, some of the queens featured are going on a worldwide Christmas Queens tour, hosted by Michelle Visage. For information on the tour click here and buy the album on iTunes here.
