Before we announce the winner of the 2016 Miss WERRRK.com Pageant, our team at the site are sitting down with all of the contestants to learn a little more about them and the pageant experience. Next up, Chiffon’s interview with Chiffon Dior…
Hi there Aurora! Happy New Year! How is 2017 treating you so far?
Hey, my year so far has been amazing! Just working in Drag every week and really getting myself out there.
After we put all you girls through the wringer for seven weeks and then the holidays hit, have you a chance to sit back and relax for a hot minute?
I wish! I’ve been on the go since the Pageant. I really kept the fire going after we had filmed the last video.
So let’s go back to the very beginning. Where are you from originally?
Well originally I’m from Gwinn, Michigan. A very small town in the upper peninsula of Michigan.
Did you just point to a spot on your hand to show where that is?
Actually it’s not on the mitten, everyone tends to think that but it’s actually over the Mackinaw Bridge attached to Wisconsin.
What was your first exposure to the world of drag growing up?
Well my mom always watched movies like The Bird Cage. When I was 16 though and fresh out of the closet, my friends took me to my first drag show. The show was at Northern Michigan University. Fun fact I’ll be hosting that show February 3rd!
Well that certainly brings you full circle! What were your impressions after seeing that first show?
Well drag really scared me, I didn’t understand why it was really even an art form at all. It actually became kind of an obsession of mine and I began researching and watching movies like, To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything Julie Newmar and really fell for the art of drag. So you could say my opinions have drastically changed.
What switched you from scared to obsessed?
Watching documentaries and educating myself. I really began to understand what people loved about drag. So I tried it for homecoming week at school, the theme was gender bender. And I have been doing it ever since.
How did you end up in Chicago?
Well I moved here a month after graduation to attend school for fashion. I only lasted for a short time before getting homesick and I decided at that time it was best for me to move home. So moving back home isn’t the most fun thing in the world but I stayed for 2 years. A couple failed relationships later and me turning 21, I really missed Chicago and the drag seen was really just starting to take off. I’ve lived here for over a year now and loved every second!
What made you want to enter the Miss WERRRK.com pageant?
I’ve never done a pageant before and I liked the format and it to be online made is so much more fun. I really learned who I was as a queen while doing the competition.
Did you know any of the other queens that competed prior the pageant?
I knew of Ivory Towers but other than that no!
What category was the most difficult for you?
Honestly I had two that I wish I could of done better at. The swimsuit for starters, I thought the concept was there but my delivery was a little off. Oh, and Creative Eveningwear, I really wish I would of had more time because that’s what I do, sew and make costumes. I just didn’t give myself the time.
You certainly didn’t play it safe in this pageant, from your swimsuit choice, to doing Freddie Mercury for Celebrity Impersonation. Did you make a conscience decision to push the envelope?
Yes I did because that’s me as a queen. If I would have played it safe I wouldn’t of been happy with myself. I had to stay true to what I thought would pay off.
What category was the easiest for you?
The talent portion was the easiest for me because I really had fun with it. I used queens that I admire and have so much love for. Also the Rappers song I used actually had all of us in the legit video. It was an amazing experience!
All the queens turned some memorable looks in this pageant. Of all the looks you’ve seen over these seven weeks, what one stood out the most to you?
Ivory’s winter look. It was super pretty!

Aside from bringing home the pageant crown, what other goals do you have on your drag bucket list?
Drag Race is the common answer I feel but honestly Dragula has really caught my attention. But other than that just continue to do what I love and to make people happy.
Well thank you so much for your time Aurora! I just want to take a moment to thank you so much for being a part of our pageant this year. You did an amazing job and should be very proud! Do you have any final words of wisdom to leave the WERRRK.com universe with?
Thank you I had a wonderful time and one thing I will say is stay true to your vision.
