Wow… that was a crazy episode. Dare I say one of my favorites in a long while. This episode was built on real terror. So real that in light of the recent tragedy in Las Vegas, FX had to show a largely edited version on television. Everything in this episode was superb from the acting, the twists, the fear, and the pure emotion. This is definitely one of my favorite seasons. Is that crazy to say? Well let’s see how the rest of the season goes. So let’s get into it shall we?
The Good
This episode was just fantastic. First of all, I would just like to give my props to the AHS team for giving us a edited version of the shooting on television. The show would have been in serious trouble if they showed the version I saw. The original scene was definitely something too out of the ordinary for American Horror Story, but I get how someone could be triggered by it. I love the plot this season. Each week it has only gotten stronger and more interesting. It might have escalated a little quickly, but it hasn’t lost interest. I loved this episode for Ally because she has started to put a hold on the constant screaming in terror and began thinking of ways to get out of this Hell. Meadow was a real twist. I actually believed she was on our side. You fooled me! But Leslie Grossman did beautifully in this episode. Her performance touched on so many issues that are relevant right now. I can literally write essays using Meadow as an example regarding mental health, domestic abuse, and rape… Because lets call it what is, Kai raped Meadow. I also would like to give some spotlight for Mare Winningham who played Sally. This has been my favorite role of Mare’s in American Horror Story. It was short but in her small amount of time she gave some of the most convincing acting this show has seen. Ending the show with Ally holding the gun opens up a world of opportunities. I have no clue where this will go but I know Ally is about to hate life even more.
The Bad
In all honesty, I don’t have many bad things to say about this episode. My biggest complaint is that we probably wont get to see more of Leslie and Mare’s characters… because they are dead. Bad. Other than that, I don’t believe I have any negative feelings toward this episode.
In Summation
You would think with Ally sneaking in the neighbors house all of the time, they would get some better security? Perhaps a lock or two. Why is the alarm always going off at The Butchery? Meadow definitely gave The Butchery a bad Yelp review after the servers failed to put bread on the table. Ivy hates Jill Stein more than Trump hates Rosie O Donnell…. Okay but these flashbacks are not winning Ally “Mother of the Year”… Sally deciding to run for City Council gave me the same happy feeling I got when Kate McKinnon first did Hillary’s presidency announcement on SNL. I’m with her! Oh wait she is dead now never mind. The shooting scene was epic and probably one of the most powerful scenes AHS has ever done. What an amazing episode.
With that said, I would just like to take a moment and give the victims of the recent Las Vegas shooting my condolences. You are forever in the thoughts and prayers of Werrrk.com and we will always be there for you. AHS may just seem like a silly show, but the reason why it is called American Horror Story is because the show mirrors the terror our world is encountering on a real life basis. The shooting we witnessed in this episode was tough to watch and terrifying. But the reality is just last week, nearly 500 people were injured and 58 people lost their lives making during America’s deadliest mass shooting, following last years mass shooting at Pulse Orlando. This is real, and if our government doesn’t do anything to halt access to weapons like the ones that were used during the Vegas shooting, we will continue to live our own American Horror Story.
