The catch phrase that swept a nation is back with a vengeance. Infamous RuPaul’s Drag Race season 10 contestant Vanessa “Vanjie” Mateo (Check out our DragCon interview with her here!), whose departing words can still be heard repeated in varying volumes in gay clubs and bath houses across the nation, has released a song, which is climbing the dance charts at a rapid pace!
I’m Vanjie is a hard-hitting, fast-paced song that is sure to become a fast favorite among club goers and party queens. Anyone who watched the first episode of season 10 could probably tell you that “Miss Vanjiiiieee” is a name you don’t want to sleep on, with her quick wit and even faster lip, Vanjie stole the hearts of millions in less time than it took RuPaul to say “Sashay Away.” And now she is claiming her spot in the limelight with this rap-battle worthy tune.
The beats are hard-hitting and the lyrics are fun and catchy, the whole package will have you hooked; ready to bring the now notorious departing catchphrase to new heights. Los Angeles queen Cake Moss, who penned the lyrics, had this to say about the experience.
“I write a lot of music, and I have my music out there, so the producers were like “who can write a good rap/vogue song??” And then next thing I know I’m writing a song for Miss Vanjie! It was so much fun to record and write, Vanessa is cool as fuck and I can’t wait to make more music for her!”
Her Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve and Talent was apparent to all after only a single episode of Drag Race, and Vanjie’s delivery of this song is no exception. It is in no uncertain terms. A Bop! And that is being proven by the numbers as the song, which was only released today, has already made it to #21 on the iTunes Dance charts (USA) and is pulling in rave reviews!
Released by Quantum Noise Records, with a 90’s house inspired track by DJ Paulo Ramirez and Darren Burgos, I’m Vanjie is sure to grab you by the eardrums and have you hitting repeat. So clear a space in your bedroom, bust out your good vogueing shoes, and check out I’m Vanjie, available on iTunes today (Download here) and give it a listen on Spotify below.
