Babes on Blades is a fantastic charity event that takes place in Halifax, NS, Canada every year. A group of Canadian drag queens and kings started the charity event to give back to the community, while also including 2SLGBTQ+ youth. Since most shows are nineteen and up, young people don’t have access to gigs. This event combines the incredible concept of drag queens on ice skates, a family friendly environment, and raising funds for an incredible cause.
So, not only do you get to watch graceful drag queens on skates, you get to skate along with them to raise money for Children’s Wish! Children’s Wish raises funds to help grant the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses. I spoke with Jacob Rafuse, the Atlantic coordinator for Children’s Wish. When he’s not working hard to set up charitable events, he is a drag queen himself, AND he’s married to Deva Station, who better to put together such a cool event? Jacob said last year their goal was to raise $5,000 and ended up raising over $13,000. This year, they’ve set a goal of $10,000, so make sure you get out there and help them reach it!
Love a good ole’ drag competition? The queen/king who raises the most for Children’s Wish will be rewarded with prizes! Last year was a $500 gift card for first place, the second was a sickening prize pack from MAC Cosmetics. Of course, these queens want to do
The public skate with drag queens takes place on February 8th at 7 pm on the Emera Oval in Halifax, NS, Canada. Be sure to head out to skate with drag queens while also raising money to give children with life-threatening illness an amazing opportunity and a wish granted. It’s going to be a wonderful time for an even more wonderful cause!
