Another week, another episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race! This episode had everything! Monsters, Trixie Mattel, the elimination of an Instagram queen, and most importantly, Elvira! Buckle your seatbelt, queen, this episode was a doozy!
The queens returned to the workroom after Mercedes Iman Diamond’s elimination. Though Silky Nutmeg Ganache got the win, Scarlet Envy took the win as her own, again applauding her casting skills. The girls finally confronted Brooke Lynn Hytes and Vanessa ‘Vanjie’ Mateo’s constant kissing. Is this the first genuine crush storyline we’ve gotten on Drag Race? Regardless, good for them.
It was a new day in the workroom and a new romance blossomed between Nina West and Silky and the queens were living for it, but RuPaul broke up the love fest with a hello, hello, hello. She quickly introduced her new doll that you of course can purchase now. The queens had to transform themselves into a doll that could be her new doll’s BFF for the mini challenge, with the help of Trixie Mattel. You couldn’t have picked a better queen to be apart of this mini challenge. Ra’Jah O’Hara took home the win AND a large amount of ice cream, so that’s exciting. Ru then dropped the bomb that this week’s challenge was a ball! The queens had to put together three looks: trampy trick or treater realness, witch please!, and MILF eleganza aka ‘monsters I’d like to freak’. May I just say I LOVE this challenge?
While putting together their looks, we found out there are cliques this season and they have name. The Dream Girls consist of Silky, Vanjie, and A’Keria Davenport. They tried to help Silky put some spooky looks together, but apparently she doesn’t do spooky. She was ready to lip synch. We also got another cute Branjie moment, but were reminded this is still a competition and that comes first. Boring! We got a personal moment with Shuga Cain too, learning she ditched a job she hated to pursue drag. I love stories like that! Do what you love, kids. While constructing their outfits, everyone doubted Brooke Lynn and Ariel Versace. Let’s see how that ends up…
As everyone got in drag, Yvie Oddly shared her first time in ‘drag’ came on Halloween when her MOM was a PIMP and she was the HOE?! Just when I thought I couldn’t love her more. This is the best first time in drag story ever. Plastique Tiara also shared that the high fashion glam drag we know her for wasn’t always her aesthetic. She actually used to do spooky drag! I was very excited to see her showcase that on the runway this week.
On the mainstage, Ru was joined by Michelle Visage, Ross Matthews, and guest judges Elvira and Cara Delevingne. She kicked off the runway by letting us know she asked the contestants to tuck their halloweenies so I actually turned off my TV. Recap ends here, all thanks to Ru’s terrible and also sadly accurate joke. Okay, just kidding, I stuck it out, and I am so glad I did. The runway was AMAZING! There were so many looks I genuinely loved. I loved A’Keria’s trampy trick or treater realness, Nina and Yvie’s witch please, and Brooke’s MILF look, just to name a few. This runway was a home run for me.
It was time for the judges critiques and Nina, A’Keria, Scarlet, Vanjie, and Ra’Jah were all safe and left the stage to untuck. The rest were either the tricks or treats of the week. Plastique, Brooke, and Yvie got the most positive feedback. Yvie’s moment with Elvira was the best. Ariel, Shuga, and Silky got the worst of em’. Shuga at least brought some monster to it, Silky and Ariel both were told they went too glam. Brooke Lynn Hytes got the win, while Shuga and Ariel fell into the bottom two.
Shuga and Ariel had the chance to save themselves with a performance to I’m Your Baby Tonight by Whitney Houston. An iconic song that deserved a little more pizazz, honestly. Ariel was inspired by Farrah Moan and took a tumble, but recovered gracefully. In the end, Shuga Cain brought it and secured her place in the competition, sending the social media queen packing.
I’ll see you all next week when the queens compete in the first ever draglympics while Yvie and Silky square off!
