2019 marked the 5th annual RuPaul’s Drag Con LA, and I had the pleasure of seeing some of my favorite queens, both local and from RuPaul’s Drag Race! Being a huge fan of drag, I have a long list of favorite queens, and this year I wanted to know who is THEIR favorite queen (or king) to see perform. Here are their answers:
Willam (RuPaul’s Drag Race, Season 4): “Christeene, she’s amazing, if you don’t know her, look her up!”
Art Simone (Australian drag superstar): “There are so many to choose from. You know, I’d be most interested to see a clone of myself perform. I want to see what I look like up there.”
Diana Dzhaketov (WERRRK.com Queen of LA 2016): “Calypso Jete.” [Follow the mother of the Haus of Jete here]
Karen from Finance (Australian legend): “I have to choose a fellow Aussie queen, Hannah Conda”
Marta BeatChu (Original LA Con Artist): “Right now, Gigi Goode & Tenderoni, I’ve been a fan of his for years.” [Follow Gigi here, and Tenderoni here]
Shuga Cain (RuPaul’s Drag Race, Season 11): “New York queen, Sherry Pie, she brings a different perspective to things that we’ve all done before.”
Jordan Jayro (A pretty funny queen) : “I just saw Trixie Mattel last night and I laughed the ENTIRE time. So I’m gonna say her.”
Trixie Mattel (RuPaul’s Drag Race, season 7 & All Stars 3 winner): “I kinda feel like a broken record, but Tammie Brown [RuPaul’s Drag Race, season 1] is one of my favorite performers! I like to see Sharon [Needles, RuPaul’s Drag Race season 5 winner] perform, I like to see anyone who believes it and makes the audience believe it; and I feel like Tammie and Sharon, they commit to the fantasy!”
Adore Delano (RuPaul’s Drag Race, season 6 and All Stars 2): “I think Yvie Oddly [RuPaul’s Drag Race season 11 WINNER] is revolutionary, and also I’m gonna say, Silky Ganache [RuPaul’s Drag Race, season 11], she’s a fuckin’ star, unapologetic and her attitude is really infectious.”
Vanessa Vanjie Mateo (RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 10 & 11): “That’s tough, you know I’m gonna say Adore [Delano] she’s amazing, I just love her voice.”
Brooke Lynn Hytes (RuPaul’s Drag Race, season 11): “Sasha Colby.” [Follow Sasha here]
Kornbread Jete [Drag’s #1 Competitive Eater]: “Pinche Queen.” [Follow Pinche here]
Mariah Paris Balenciaga (RuPaul’s Drag Race, season 3): “It sounds cliche, but Bianca del Rio [RuPaul’s Drag Race, season 6 winner] because she’s smart, she’s constantly working, does her own hair, her own clothes, her own act. It’s not all hype, she’s the real deal.”
BibleGirl (CEO of dragqueenmerch.com and WERRRK.com Drag Queen of the Year 2016): “I gotta say my sister, Marta BeatChu”
Nicky Monet (Orlando transplant burlesque superstar): “Sasha Velour.” [RuPaul’s Drag Race, season 9 winner]
Beverly Luxe (Polly Pocket of drag and designer extraordinaire) : “My local sisters, Gigi Goode, Beverly Luxe, Kalista Stage, Kornbread…” [Follow Kalista Stage here]
Misty Violet (WERRRK.com Queen of LA 2015, undisputed Queen of Stoopid): “Misty Violet. Yeah, I’m gonna say myself, of course I’m my favorite queen! I’m the only queen right now that makes money for me, bitch. Ain’t no other queen makin’ money for me. Happy Drag Con!”
