Our next headliner is coming to us all the way from Berlin got this year’s Festival! We are very excited to announce that Ghōst will be headlining the Austin International Drag Festival this year! (Get your tickets here and join us in Austin this fall!)
Congratulations on being named a headliner Ghōst! How did you get involved with the Austin International Drag Festival and what does this opportunity mean to you?
I have been wanting to be part of Austin International Drag Festival since I started doing drag, unfortunately for me, I’m too forgetful to remember to apply on time! Thankfully, my manager thought ahead and applied for me, but I was absolutely ecstatic to hear that I was going to be a part of it! Austin Drag Fest is not only a great opportunity to perform and show my art to a broad audience, but it is also a great chance to meet performers from around the world with whom I share a common passion. I’m really looking forward to meeting artists of every horizon, aesthetic and style, and to show the world what I’m about!
For those people living under a rock, can you tell us a little bit about Ghōst and your drag?
Ghōst is a drag performer with a little bit of a dark soul. Born from the underground wave, goth and techno scenes, my drag is inspired by tech noire and science fiction classics such as Blade Runner, Ghost in the Shell and The Matrix. Blending my love for fashion and makeup with my liking for bondage and fetish, my aesthetic is sensual, dark, and edgy. Latex, vinyl, harnesses, buckles, it all speaks to me. My performance style is sultry, arty and subversive, it relies heavily on storytelling and usually takes a political or societal stance. I love to use visuals and props to enrich the experience. I’m now based in Berlin, but I am originally from Paris where I travel every other month to host my show “Tech Noire”, and I’ve been performing across Europe and North America where I used to live. My passion for makeup originated from when I used to live in New York City.
We can’t wait to see what you’re planning on bringing to the stage in Austin! Can you give the WERRRK .com universe a little tease of what’s to come this fall in Texas?
You can expect a lot of latex, a lot of black, maybe a whip or some ropes, but most importantly, you can expect a lot of craziness on stage! I really want to show the different sides of Ghōst, in turns tough and dominant, but also soft and ethereal. I’m working on brand new numbers which I want to be a complete experience, with custom-made outfits and visuals. I can’t wait to show Texas what I’m about!
