Hi, what are you looking for?

Drag Queens

Drag World London 2019!

Drag World London 2019 is over and done within a blink of an eyelash, with what has been no doubt its most successful year yet! The convention, now in its third year, played host to over 9,000 attendees including vendors, brands, and queens galore.  It was one hell of a weekend and as we all relax, unwind and recuperate, let us take you on a little trip down memory lane. And if you weren’t there (and shame on you if you weren’t!), its new to you!

With the recent announcement of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK arriving to our screens on October 3rd, we are all excited with anticipation on what to expect! With British household names as guests, we can definitely expect sarcasm, cabaret and camp old humour aplenty. So it was appropriate that we ask the queens of Drag World London 2019…  “What would you like to see from Drag Race UK that hasn’t been a part of the American version?”

What did the queens want to see? Read on to find out!

Lydia L’ scabies (UK queen, Brighton)

“I’m so excited, it’s actually going to be really nice to know the guest judges as I feel that’s lost sometimes on the UK audience members whilst watching the American version. It’s going to be great to see British household names appearing. Challenge wise there’s always a good acting challenges, if they do an Eastenders theme I’m going to die, that needs to be featured, as well a girl group challenge as their very important over here.”

Trixie Mattel (RuPaul’s Drag Race season 7 & AS3 Winner)

“Oh they all definitely have to create something using real fresh flowers, I’d love that!”

Tatianna  (RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 2 & AS2)

“Some sort of challenge that involves fish and chips, that’s very British right?”

Phi Phi ‘O’Hara (RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 4 & AS2)

“Talented queens! (Laughs). Just kidding, but they are already so different, since the style in the UK is so different than the queens from America, so I like that, because its their own style, I wouldn’t change anything I’m excited to see what they come up with!”

Derrick Barry (Rupaul’s Drag Race Season 8)

“Since Charlie Hides says that the queens don’t lip sync in the UK, I’m expecting all the queens to be singing live, so it’s not a lip sync for your legacy. It can be a love song for your legacy. Wait, lip sync for your life, sing live for your life. Yeah, I’m excited.”

Dusty Ray Bottoms  (RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 10)

“I love that the UK Girls love to have a mic in their hand, and they love to host, and sing the house down. I would love to see them working a crowd and sing and just do their stick, we don’t get to see what girls really get to do in their element – it’s always a lot of bullshit challenges, so let’s just let them do their thing.”

Blair St. Clair (RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 10)

“I am really excited to get to know more about the UK culture on the show and I really want to know where the contestants come from. I don’t know the UK as well, or what drag is like in all those places.”

Holly Stars (UK Queen)

“We definitely need a character queen, a real queen with character, a full stand up comedy queen.”

All Drag Is Valid (UK Collective)

“We would love to see diversity, more representation. We would love to see alternative people, women, non binary, trans people of colour, and to see everything there is. Would be great to see people that don’t have thousands of followers. Just fresh, raw, creative, crazy drag talent.”

Kate Butch  (UK Queen)

“I’d like to see myself on there as I’m a narcissist, I’d love to look at myself and see myself on the television. I think I would win as I do a very good snatch game, I’d do the Virgin Mary ‘My son wrote a book, we’re so proud’

Slay Presents! (CJ Banks, Lawrence Chaney and Miss Peaches):

“Everyone being represented. Ignoring the rumours aside, we hope there’s representation from across the country, from across the Drag scene spectrum and from different stories we haven’t seen already from US Drag Race. There’s plenty of stereotypes of the same sort of story happening in the US but the UK is its own beast and most of all, I’m super excited to watch. This must be what the US queens must be like. ‘I’ve worked with that bitch for half my drag career’. I can’t wait to see them succeed on TV, we’re very excited.”
