Congratulations on being named a headliner Damien! How did you get involved with the Austin International Drag Festival and what do you bring to this role?
This will be my first year being involved with the Austin International Drag Festival and I am so excited to be a part of it! I was asked several months ago to headline by Mary Jane Styles and it was an absolute honor to be asked. I have really been interested in attending for a while now. I am excited to bring some extra visibility for drag kings in our industry and I think it’s amazing that AIDF works hard to showcase us since a lot of our industry does not. I also am glad to help represent POC/Asian and non-binary performers in our industry as well!
For those people living under a rock, can you tell us a little bit about Damien D’Luxe’s style of drag?
My style of drag is pretty versatile but I am probably best known for my make up transformations and cosplay/impersonations. I do a variety of drag including comedy, sexy/ boilesque, darker numbers and dance routines as well. My style is more over the top costuming paired with a twist of gender bending make up. I try to bring a little bit of each of my specialties to every show i am in.
We can’t wait to see what you are planning on bringing to the stage in Austin! Can you give the us a little tease of what’s to come this fall in Texas?
I haven’t completely finalized everything yet but I have a plan to bring a brand new cosplay look and number along with one of my signature numbers that I do here in Minnesota for sure!
