THE WERRRK.com BOP OF THE WEEK: “Electric Democracy” by Ripley

In the spirit of WERRRK.com’s Weekly Instadrag where we highlight some of our favorite drag looks of the week and have helped to expose over 700 drag artists and over 200 photographers from around the world to new audiences, we are very excited to bring you The WERRRK.com BOP OF THE WEEK (Hashtag #werrrkbotw), where each week we will spotlight a song from a queer or queer-friendly musical artist on our site!

We are very excited for this new feature so please share this post or tag your musically talented friends to let them know about this new opportunity for them to expose their work to a whole new audience!

And after a one week break for the holiday weekend, we’re back for this week’s featured BOP OF THE WEEK, which just dropped today, “Electric Democracy” by Scottish artist Ripley! (Check it out on Spotify here and look for it on iTunes!)

The song explores Britain’s divided politics, the rise in xenophobia, fear of Brexit and a growing sense that many Britons feel unrepresented by today’s main political parties.

‘So much British pop shies away from the crisis the United Kingdom is currently in,’ says Ripley. ‘Electric Democracy holds a mirror to the country, to its politicians and calls for change. But it also places emphasis on the individual. We all need to take responsibility. We need to get up and vote if we’re to get the UK out of this awful Tory mess.’

So for all you singers, bands, DJ’s and other assorted musical acts, in order to be featured, send us a YouTube link to your hot new song that you want us to consider for the BOP OF THE WEEK, either via email (contact@werrrk.com; Be sure to title the email “Bop of the Week”!) or by sliding into our DMs on Twitter or Instagram (@WERRRRKdotcom on both)!
