Another week, another episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars. The workroom was a lot quieter with Derrick Barry absent. India Ferrah was celebrating her first win and the elimination of her worst enemy.
The fun didn’t last for long. When discussing who voted for who in the Rumocracy, Jujubee revealed she voted for Mayhem Miller to go home. Mayhem didn’t handle that well, understandably. The drama kept going. Miz Cracker thought she should have brought white-out to eliminate Ongina. It was pretty shady.
RuPaul saved the day by entering the workroom and revealing the challenge for the week. The queens would be writing and performing their own songs and perform them in girl groups. Ru stirred the pot by asking India her biggest competition. She said Shea Couleé and Blair St. Clair. So, the three of them would be team captains.
Team Shea consisted of Mariah Balenciaga and Ongina. Team India featured Jujubee and Alexis Mateo. Team Blair housed Miz Cracker and Mayhem. They would all pick a celebrity crush and write a love song to them. It was genuinely hilarious listening to them talk about which celebrities they had crushes on. Blair’s was Hannibal Lector? Mayhem’s was Mr. Rogers? It was incredible.
The queens had to record their verses on camera, unfortunately. Blair kicked it off and it was… something. Honestly, all of the recording takes were rough. When Leland, the producer, would compliment the queens’ singing I was concerned for his hearing. Poor Ongina lost her voice and had to push through it.
Then came the choreography. Team Shea struggled through the recording but made up for it with their choreo. Team India and Team Blair didn’t work nearly as well together. Alexis tried to lead team India through basic choreography but her group struggled. Cracker and Blair were butting heads while trying to run through their routine.
As the queens were getting into drag, Alexis and Shea asked Mayhem how working with Blair and Cracker went. She shared that Cracker tried to rewrite her verse, which is odd. That led to a conversation between Blair and Cracker. Blair called out Cracker for having an ego. Cracker said she struggles to connect with people. It was a tough episode for Cracker.
It was time for the queens to hit the main stage. Joining Ru on the judges’ panel were Michelle Visage, Carson Kressley, Tessa Thompson, and Madison Beer. The evening kicked off with the performance. Honestly, it was pretty solid for how rocky the run-through went. There wasn’t anyone who stood out in a bad way. Everyone performed well!
For the runway, the queens featured looks inspired by loving the skin they’re in. Blair St. Clair stood out by painting her face pink. Her outfit was one of my favorites. Mayhem and Ongina also looked beautiful, but it was Shea who stole the show. I can’t even explain how incredible her look was.
Then came the judges’ critiques. Alexis, Cracker, and Mayhem were safe. Shea got by far, and rightfully so, received the highest praise. Jujubee and Blair also got high praise. Ongina and India were not as lucky. They, along with Mariah who critiques fell somewhere in the middle, were set to be in the bottom and they were. It was Shea who won the challenge and would compete against the lipsync assassin.
Back in the workroom as the queens were preparing to cast their vote, Ongina really struggled with her experience on the show. I think Cracker came to regret the words she spoke to her earlier in the episode. Meanwhile, Shea was feeling down on herself as a team leader seeing two of her teammates in the bottom three while she was the winner. All Stars is emotionally draining, y’all.
This week’s lipsync assassin was none other than Alyssa Edwards! She and Shea faced off to Neutron Dance by The Pointer Sisters. What a match up! Yet another great lipsync! It was certainly a close call, but in the end, Shea took home her second win of the night and a cash tip of $20,000! It was Shea’s lipstick who would send an All Star home. It was unfortunately Ongina’s time. We will miss her!
