The queens were back after the elimination of RuPaul’s Drag Race legend Ongina. The episode kicked off with the queens sharing who they voted for to be eliminated. It turns out Ongina was a unanimous decision. Mariah Balenciaga was still shook she got close to being eliminated. Meanwhile, Jujubee was dealing with the fact that she could go for a corn dog in that moment. She is so brave, thank you for sharing your story.
‘Twas a new day in the workroom. The day started with a beautiful impression of Ongina performed by Mayhem Miller. Alexis Mateo took the opportunity to call out Miz Cracker for her treatment of Ongina. Mayhem wasn’t buying her apology and neither was Alexis. On the other hand, Juju thought Alexis was playing head games by demanding honesty out of her fellow competitors. The drama!
RuPaul saved the day, as always, and did so in a beautiful suit. Ru shared that the queens would be starring in a hotel design show for the main challenge. They would be designing hotel suites, a welcome basket, and give a tour. The teams had been chosen for them. Cracker, Shea Couleé, and Mariah were team one, Alexis, Juju, and India Ferrah was team two, and Blair St. Clair and Mayhem made up team three.
The queens got to brainstorming. Juju’s idea was to make their hotel room Alaska, the state, not the drag queen, themed. Shea came up with the best idea, in my humble opinion. A hotel room inspired by one of the greatest shows in television history, The Golden Girls. Incredible, truly incredible.
The best part of this episode was watching these drag queens try to paint the walls of their hotel suite. Miz Cracker was too short, Jujubee was painting with no real method behind her madness. At one point, Mariah came over and put some pink paint on team Jujubee’s bright green wall. I really love that they made them paint their own walls.
Back in the workroom, the queens were putting the final touches on their hotel suite looks. Mayhem and Blair were talking about how they felt a weight off their shoulders working without Cracker involved. On the other hand, Shea had an easy time working with Cracker. The drama started back up again. When Cracker said she respected only Shea, Mariah, and Jujubee, Alexis jumped in. Shea stood up for Cracker, assuming Alexis was trying to get in her head. The drama this season, y’all. It’s something.
It was finally time to see the queens’ hotel creations. It amazed me how Shea looked like she was wearing an outfit straight from Dorothy herself. It blew my mind how Cracker forgot what cheesecake was called and simply said “cream cheese pie”. Honestly, I loved it. Then came Juju, Alexis, and India’s jungle-themed hotel. Jujubee was hilarious, of course. She stole the show. Blair and Mayhem’s room was cute. They both looked beautiful.
On the runway, Ru was joined by Michelle Visage, Ross Matthews, Martyn Lawrence Bullard, and Nicole Byer. The category this week was three looks in one! This theme was a lot of fun! I loved Blair and Mariah’s looks, but Juju’s witch into Mrs. Claus and then the Easter Bunny. Incredible. Ru was shady on the runway saying Blair and Mayhem had the best room but it was Jujubee who got her first-ever main challenge victory! Poor team Golden Girls got the hardest critiques. The judges went in on Mariah, Cracker, and Shea. It was no surprise that Mariah, Shea, and India fell into the bottom three. Though I must say, I don’t exactly agree with the judges’ critiques this week.
Back in the workroom, the queens discussed what happened on the runway. Blair was confused that Shea landed in the bottom three while India had a breakdown about the chance she could go home. Alexis mentioned the idea of sending Shea home and followed through by putting her lipstick in the box. Did I mention the DRAMA?
The moment of truth came. Juju took the stage to lip sync for her legacy against an assassin. This week, we were graced with the presence of Monét X. Change! The two queens faced off to Juice by Lizzo. Jujubee didn’t know the words. Was she unprepared or did she throw it? Either way, we got an amazing Monet performance out of it!
Monet took home the win, of course, and the moment of truth came. I was so bummed to see Monet pull Mariah’s name out of her sleeve. I don’t think we got to see enough of her. She will certainly be missed.
Join me next week as we watch the queens perform in a TMZ spoof, SheMZ!
