Can you believe that season three is already upon us? Will it uphold the legacy left by the now-iconic season two? Will we get moments such as U.K Hun, infamous eliminations, and catchphrases galore?
Well the wait is over and we now descend upon a new season of queens, welcome back to the game… Veronica Green I’m going to be honest, it took me a hot minute to be like why is she green… I know I know. Moving swiftly on we meet my fave Kitty Scott Claus rocking a playful Elle Woods inspired number.
Victoria Scone is in the building and making history as the first cisgender woman on the show, and about bloody time, as anyone can do drag…anyone who disagrees well, move along. Entering with an evil pantomime dame laugh, she was welcomed with open arms, and cheers of finally!
Now for me Choriza May stole the show with her opening line, when I say I laughed out loud, ”Don’t hate me because I’m beautiful, hate me because I’m an immigrant” I mean, that is iconic, a Newcastle queen with a thirst for creativity. I can’t wait to see what she gets up to!
Rounding up the last of the queens is Charity Kase. I could talk about all these entrance looks and queens for days, but I promise to make these reviews less fan girly ramblings! (For more meet the queens facts and information check out the feature here.) For me this set of entrances are so strong and already an indicator of how ready these girls are to go and make herstory!
Normally mini challenges of the past have been British inspired, Tower of London and Wimbledon, but this was more of a fun introduction of group bonding playing dirty charades. This was far more enjoyable, don’t get me wrong I love a photo challenge, but the U.K. ones haven’t hit the spot like the USA ones have. We get the queens in to group to test their teammates, group one for me was iconic, stupid and fun.
This week’s maxi challenge is the usual hometown look & second is favourite things, whilst unpacking and de-dragging the queens talk about their time during the pandemic and what it means to get on the show. For River Medway the loss of her mum to covid inspired her to carry on, even bringing some of her mums pieces to represent on the runway. A big tear jerker moment, and a reminder just how destructive covid was to so many people.
Which led Choriza explaining how she hadn’t seen anyone for 18 months during the pandemic. Working from home and living alone while her boyfriend was abroad made her realise how precious friends and family are. Now I think this bit we all truly learnt, for me not being able to surround myself with the like minded adventure drag family I’ve built over the years was really hard, having simple interactions with friends limited to online was difficult for everyone.
Let the runway begin, first out is Victoria Scone in a Daffodil inspired look for her hometown Wales, which was so well executed. Her favourite thing look: afternoon scones taking a leaf out of Leigh Bowery’s iconic image catalogue and shone like a star. River Medway for me made a new iconic moment of modelling her town statue mimicking moves not sure which way to point. Making Ru cackle…the more Ru laughed I laughed, it was the moment.
After that runway it’s fair to say everyone was good, no real duds which as an audience makes it hard to pick a fave so early on but as I’m rucappng I’m going to force myself to pick. This week my top runway toots faves are *drumroll*, Victoria Scone, Vanity Milan, Charity Kase and Choriza May all showcased something different that caught my eye!
Now we all know season 2 was sensational and this is the last time I will acknowledge it I promise. So for this season we don’t get a linear straight forward routine we all know, nope this season Ru is shaking it up in Blighty. The top two are Victoria Scone and Krystal Versace… BUT this time they have to lipsync for the win, that’s right we get two lip syncs tonight.. How exciting! This leaves Elektra and Anubis Finch in the bottom… (boo!)
Let’s start the lipsync battles, Victoria and Krystal in a battle to take the first win. Both were good but Krytsal went another level with the emotion shown, first Rupeter badge in the bag! The battle to stay is to everyone’s favourite U.K. girl band Little Mix with the ultimate tune Sweet Melody! Honestly Elektra stole the show, this is what I fell in love with when I saw her in the summer, energy for days!
And this sadly leads us to say goodbye to Anubis Finch, another Brighton queen leaving the season first.
So there we go, Season 3 has begun, what did we all think? Did we agree with the elimination? Who are we loving?
