Disney Fans Torn After the Debut of EPCOT’s New Show “Harmonious”

Walt Disney World debuted their newest nighttime show, Harmonious on the Disney Parks’ YouTube channel last night and reactions from the Disney fanbase are already hitting the internet. Unfortunately for the Mouse, there doesn’t seem to be much harmony from the EPCOT faithful regarding their thoughts regarding the permanent replacement for the beloved IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth show.

There were definitely some negative reactions…..

It PAINS me to say this, but Harmonious was so disappointing. Using massive barges to play computer graphics when Disney has the world’s best animation at its fingertips is jarring and strange. It doesn’t feel Epcot, it doesn’t really feel Disney and I’m…shocked, to be honest. pic.twitter.com/XE1kxx1Wjq

Wow, #Harmonious was uh… bad.

They kinda just picked one movie at a time and mashed some of the songs together (and maybe a few words in another language), then paused and moved on to the next one. There is NO flow to it.

It's a salute to all languages – but mostly English.

But other people seemed to enjoy the new show….

Might be unpopular, but I loved it! Hercules, Hunchback, Mulan, Merida, Tiana, Coco…It was so fun. #HARMONIOUS pic.twitter.com/qF5TPlkT9K

Harmonious is one of the most beautiful and timely replacements for IllumiNations. I know that a lot of people think that it's similar to Happily Ever After or would fit better elsewhere, but hear me out…

Our future is dependent upon our ability as people to work together…

And of course, people had jokes….

sorry. Can’t help it. #HARMONIOUS pic.twitter.com/qMF08u75fH

Ultimately, the Disney fans themselves will decide if this new show will enjoy a lengthy run in EPCOT like IllumiNations did or if it will prematurely wind up in the graveyard of scrapped Disney attractions and shows like Rivers of Light. Brayden from the Mickey Views YouTube channel summed up what is at stake for this show nicely.

Harmonious won't last long if normal people's reactions are anything like the reactions of the fans I spoke to. That's not being dramatic, Disney spends a lot on these shows, they need them to be winners. The success of shows impacts attendance and restaurant reservations.

Hopefully the issues regarding the lack of real story transitions, sight line issues and lackluster finale can be fixed. IllumiNations in its earliest form was different than what the show ultimately evolved into. Despite Disney CEO Bob Chapek being an easy punching bag for the hardcore Disney fans these days, the company deserves the opportunity to let this show blossom into what it might eventually become. Judging its fate based on one showing is unfair and unreasonable but there is clearly work to be done.
