The Olympics of drag is expanding with the latest announcement of RuPaul’s Drag Race: UK Versus The World. The franchise is home to 14 US seasons, six All-Star seasons and has branched out internationally across six nations. UK Versus The World is to be the ultimate All-Stars battle royale with nine international queens battling it out for the crown.
The UK is to welcome everyone by playing host for the first season. Queens from different franchises and cultures will compete in an international arena showcasing their country’s finest drag in their bid to become the ultimate Drag Race Superstar. Whilst we don’t know who will be competing the franchise has hundreds of queens to choose from (the Runiverse is always expanding ) ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race UK‘, ‘Canada’s Drag Race’, ‘Drag Race Holland’, ‘Drag Race Espana‘, and ‘Drag Race Thailand’. It’s unclear how many from each country will be selected and if any of the recent ‘Drag Race Italia’ artists will also be featured.
The magic judging format of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK returns with Michelle Visage, Graham Norton, Alan Carr, and a sparkling array of superstar guest judges will join RuPaul to help him decide who will be the queen of the world and named the first Global Drag Race Superstar.
The competing queens will be revealed at a later date. As the wait begins, I for one cannot wait to see what UK queens come back to our screens and compete with the world. The series will air on WOW Presents Plus and for us folks in the UK will air on BBC Three.
To curb the wait RuPaul’s Drag Race season 14 has been announced with a brand new cast and is set to premiere on Friday, January 7th over on WOW Presents Plus.
