It’s already the semi-finals, anyone else feels like this season has gone in the blink of an eye. Has it been the shocking elimination that has made it fly by? I think the majority of us didn’t see the competition played out this way. With Pangina Heels eliminated last week and with the saddest exit in what I consider drag race herstory, the queens gather in the werkoom. The most heartbreaking bit for me was Blu Hydrangea saying she hopes she still has a career after this. The drag race fandom can be a toxic place it’s just a TV show folks. As Pangina and others have said, instead of being angry tip and support the eliminated queen.
Baga Chipz reveals she too would have sent Pangina packing, as part of Jimbo’s revenge. I think all the queens agreed that after Lemon, Jimbo, and Cheryl Hole it was the inevitable outcome.
The queens gather the next day where they are given this week’s maxi challenge, they are to write, record and group choreograph to Rupauls single ‘Living My Life In London.’ Not only this but they get the chance to be voice coached by the iconic Jade Thirwall of Little Mix fame.
Jade Thirwall is here to coach the girls through the recording process, she’s honest and helpful as some queens are struggling more than others. Mo, Baga, and Jujubee sail through their sessions with no problem. The storyline producers are pushing that Janey is not only struggling but ruining everyone’s eardrum with her vocals. With vocals laid down, it’s time for the choreography, Mo and Janey take it upon themselves to put together a routine. Baga
It’s showtime and we get the premiere of the smash hit single ‘In London’ as with most drag race songs can be a hit or a miss. This was a fun bop, everyone’s lyrics were strong Blu, Baga, and Mo I enjoyed their performance it was current as wasn’t a generic lyric ‘I’m here to snatch the crown’, etc Janey Jacke’s vocals were fine, the previous day’s footage made out she would come out a warbling chicken. The only thing I could think was the winner’s prize is a collab on a RuPaul song, so technically they’ve all participated in the prize already?
A lot of conversations have arisen this season with a variety of important topics, hearing how each has suffered regardless of where they came from is heartbreaking. Mo talks about how she was put through conversion therapy, as fun as drag is I think we all need to be reminded of the issues going outside the realm of that. The platform this show is and the ages of the audience everyone is either educated or feeling seen and validated. Was quite an emotional mirror chat this week but one most definitely needed.
The catwalk category is Werk of Art this was a really strong runway this week. Everyone’s concepts were strong, recognizable, and well-executed. For me, Jujubee and Mo shone in their outfits, as everyone is saying Jujubee has arrived with her runway. There is no denying Jujubee is a true drag race champion, she places in the top two with Mo Heart. This means Juju has made it to another final of drag race which is impressive. Tonight she looked stunning and excelled in the challenge. We have a bottom three leaves Baga, Blu, and Janey in the bottom three.
The queens deliberate with Blu and Mo’s alliance coming to effect, I think this week it’s a bit more obvious who may be going home. The lipsync song I hadn’t heard before, but it was a fun number from both queens. Jujubee slightly pips Mo to the post and wins the lipsync, she pulls the lipstick and sends her sister Janey Jacke home.
This episode I really enjoyed, it had a mix of comedy, fun, and barely any drama which is what we needed a break from. So its #TeamUK vs #TeamUSA. In next week’s preview, we see the return of the eliminated queens, so we should be in for quite the reunion. Who do YOU want to win? Let us know below!
