If you’re anything like me, this season may be the most excited you’ve been for new content from RuPaul‘s Drag Race: All-Stars since the first two seasons. There’s something so special about seeing these queens, especially legends like Raja back in the workroom.
The first-ever all winners season has a stacked lineup of killer queens. Raja, Shea Coulee, Jaida Essence Hall, Yvie Oddly, Monet X. Change, Jinkx Monsoon, Trinity The Tuck, and the UK’s first winner, The Vivienne are all competing for the crown of all crowns. It’s going to be a fun season.
As to be expected, the queens looked flawless in their entrance looks during episode one. Shea and Raja were standouts for me, but there wasn’t a bad look in the house. Before RuPaul greeted the girls, they did a little bit, sending Raven in as if she was a contestant. Of course, it was just for fun, but I’ll never say no to more Raven on my screen.
Ru finally filled the queens in on the big twist of the season. If you were just starting to understand the traditional All-Stars rules, I hate to break it to you, but they’re out. This season, no one will be going home, and instead, a top-four will be decided via a points system. Each week two queens will win the challenge and be awarded a legendary legends star. At the end of the season, whoever has the most stars moves on to the top four. Oh yeah, and the winner of the lip sync can block a queen from getting a star in the next challenge. However, that queen could still win the challenge. I know, it’s a lot, but it’ll make sense in the end.
The queens got straight into the reading challenge, which is always a hit. Jinkx was the best, as we all expected, and she won the challenge. For the maxi-challenge, the queens would be making their own verse to Ru’s new song, Legendary. But first, the queens got to walk the runway for none other than Naomi Campbell, and Shea got so emotional getting to meet her idol. It was an adorable moment.
For the challenge, everyone nailed it. There wasn’t a bad performance. And since no one is going home, Ru, Michelle Visage, Carson Kressley, and guest judge Cameron Diaz all got to share only positive critiques. The looks were incredible, but Shea was the standout winner for me. She and Monet would each pick up a star for the first challenge. When it came to the lipsync, they both were hilarious in their performance of Ella Fitzgerald’s rendition of Old MacDonald, but Shea came out on top and chose to block Trinity from getting a star in the next challenge.
That next challenge was everyone’s favorite, Snatch Game! Honestly, that may have been the best Snatch Game ever? They had to portray not one, but two celebrities, which made it even more fun. There were so many standouts. Raja as the puppet Madame, Jinkx as Judy Garland, Trinity as Leslie Jordan. Oh and hear me out… Jaida as Prince. Sure, she wasn’t exactly in character, but I laughed every time she opened her mouth.
On the main stage, Ru was joined by Michelle, the hilarious Ross Mathews, and Daphne Guinness. For the runway theme, the queens were to wear pleather and it was so good. I loved Raja, Jaida, and Jinkx’s looks, but there were no duds. Maybe they need to cancel the show after this season because the standards have been raised.
It was no surprise that Jinkx and Trinity were the top two of the week, even if Trinity couldn’t get a legendary legends star. However, she could still win the $10,000 cash tip and block a fellow contestant. Trinity and Jinkx faced off to Rumour Has It by Adele and it was a cute number. Either could have taken it, however, Jinkx snagged the victory and chose to block Shea! It’s getting juicy, y’all!
