Have you ever found yourself watching an episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race and thought, “I wish this was a little more like The Bachelor”? Well, then I have some news for you. World of Wonder has a new show that’s right on your ally (thanks, Kandy Muse). The show centers around fan-favorite contestant, Vanessa “Vanjie” Mateo, aka José, and her hunt for love in a Bachelor style reality show called Vanjie: 24 Hours of Love brought to you by House of Love cocktails, of course.
The show is a social experiment, Vanjie said, where eighteen men will be in a Los Angeles home with the queen and have a chance to find love with her! The men had no idea that they were headed to possibly find love with Miss Vanjie herself. The contestants came from all walks of life. One man was a father of three, others were entrepreneurs, some were adult entertainers, and there was even another drag queen in the mix. Some have come fresh out of a relationship, while others have never had a long-term partner. This is truly a wide variety of individuals!
As for Vanjie, she feels as though she can’t find love because of her career. It isn’t easy being a full-time touring drag queen and maintaining a relationship at the same time. For now, she goes home to her cat, which seems like more than enough to me, but it looks like she wants a man. To each their own, I guess.
Of course, these men knew who Vanjie was when she made her appearance in the house. However, they were unaware that this was the person they were competing to date. At first, they thought Vanjie was just the host, but then learned they were competing against each other to date her. Vanjie shared that every hour, someone was going to be eliminated from the house. This experiment is going to be intense!
Vanjie kicked things off with a speed round to attempt to get to know the guys. She was pulling guys off to the side, but some of the other competitors were overthinking the whole thing. They were worried Vanjie was meeting one-on-one with her favorite men, like Jozea, who was the first to meet with her. If you recognize him, he was on Big Brother and his longest relationship was with none other than Marc Jacobs. Talk about a history!
Anyway, Vanjie sent Jozea to grab another guy for her to talk to. Tyler was next and he was looking for a different type of relationship, not one modeled after a heteronormative ideology of what love is. Meanwhile, Vanjie was hoping for a more traditional relationship setup. After Tyler’s chat, he tagged in Thomas, who she kept wanting to call Rosé. Thomas brought over Nick, who is looking for a husband. Maybe he will be the one? We’ll have to see, I suppose.
After Vanjie’s speed round, she walked in on the guys having a conversation about Only Fans. Turns out, she’s seen a few of them naked already. She found out that there were a few accounts from these men she hadn’t seen yet. One was even a filmmaker who directs others on his account. Interesting.
Then, it was time to eliminate someone. She pulled a RuPaul and asked the men to pick the person she eliminates. Anthony got thrown under the bus by a few of the contestants. However, Vanjie wasn’t onboard with it. So, she sent home Zuri, the father of three, because he shared he was dating someone else and had them waiting at home. Yikes!
So, one of the 18 contestants has bit the dust. 17 are left and rounded out the episode in the pool. Next week, Vanjie is bringing in some help in the form of Derrick Barry and it looks like there is going to be a ton of drama! See ya then!
