Craving some Christmas in July? Don’t worry, for some reason, RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars has got you covered. This week, the queens were competing in an acting challenge with a Christmas theme. You know, usual drag activities.
The queens were back in the workroom following Trinity “The Tuck” Taylor and Jaida Essence Hall’s big win. Jaida is the first and only queen to have three stars! She is currently in the lead, though Trinity would also have three stars if she hadn’t been blocked during her week two win. Speaking of blocked, Yvie Oddly joined the plunger crew. Doing the math, some of the queens were sweating with only one star and four challenges left. Things are about to get competitive.
RuPaul entered the workroom and told the contestants that they would be starring in the soon-to-be cult classic Santa’s School for Girls. The queens got together to assign the roles. Since Trinity won last week, she got to dish out the roles to the others. Since Monet X Change and Jinkx Monsoon both wanted the same role, Trinity had them audition for it. However, since Trinity and Monet have an alliance, Monet got the role.
Raja and Shea Couleé seemed to be happy with their roles, but the competition was tight. Like Jaida and Yvie pointed out, there are a lot of strong actors in the room. Jinkx wasn’t as thrilled, but she’s such a strong actor you can’t count her out!
The queens ran through their scenes with Janicza Bravo and Ru. Of course, Ru loved everything The Vivienne did. While this wasn’t an inspiring set of lines, the queens did a good job of telling the story, even if I wasn’t really sure what the story was. However, they seemed to have had a good time and that’s all that matters.
Then came the runway. Ru was joined by Michelle Visage, Ross Mathews, and Janicza to judge the queen’s knitty knitty bang bang looks. Yes, that was the category. And can I just say how much I loved it? Everyone had a different perception of knitted looks and all of them were magic. Of course, Shea’s look was a favorite, but I really couldn’t get enough of all of them.
As for the acting challenge, it was completely ridiculous, of course. Everyone’s acting was over the top, as to be expected. However, did anyone else notice Viv kept going into her Trump voice during her performance? I couldn’t look past it.
It was time for the judges’ critiques. Everyone got great feedback but in the end, Viv and Raja were the winners. Do I think it should have been Monet and Raja? Yes. But you didn’t hear that from me.
Anyway, the pair faced off to Super Freak by Rick James. I echoed Monet’s sentiments, Raja was turning it. Raja won! It was her first time blocking one of her fellow contestants and she awarded the plunger to Jaida, who has the most stars, and went this long without getting blocked! She kind of had it coming, huh?
Next week, the queens will have to create their own social media dance. It’s sure to be good because Jinkx was shoving a sandwich into her mouth during the preview.
