Saying goodbye to Le Fill last week did not spark joy as the queens gather around the mirror message. All of the queens fill the room with love and positivity towards their dearly departed Le Fil.
It’s a makeover challenge this week featuring the queen team. A team of queens (staff) from Rupauls Drag Race help behind the scenes. The lovely woman who makes sure they’re fed, mentally stable, and an around the aftercare team. I love makeover challenges, it’s a chance for the queens to go out of their comfort zone, or just show how creative they can be. The queens seem so genuinely so excited to work with these women, you can feel the love in the room.
Ru pairs the queens with their partners via the alphabet, this confused me. Not sure how it was done, but we have some wonderful pairings. We get Black Peppa with Fleur, Cheddar Gorgeous, and Gemma. Dakota Schiffer with the lovely Lucie, Danny Beard partnered with witty Mystique (great name.) Lastly, we see Jonbers Blonde with Olivia and finally Pixe Polite, and Wendy. The aim is to create a family resemblance as seen in previous seasons. Firstly I love Gemma, Wendy, and Lucie’s energy. They remind me of my friends, with their humor and style. Wendy already has a drag name in mind, and it’s peak British humor – Hugh Jarrse (huge arse) I love Wendy.
RuPaul’s Drag Race alumni Raven does check-ins with the queens to see how they’re doing as well as offer her tricks and tips once again.
We get a wonderfully warm and emotional story with Black Peppa and Fleur who both discuss their queerness. Hearing how religion held Pepper from living her authentic self is so heartbreaking. But she perceived and explained how due to her smartness attained a degree in the UK and graduated with a first. As always hearing these stories amongst each other is so important. If it means just one person watching can be helped or feel lighter knowing they aren’t alone.
It’s time for the runway, and this week we’re left motherless as Rupaul is unable to host due to circumstances beyond their control. But do not fear Michelle Visage is filling her heels this week as host, this week we are joined by resident judge Alan Carr, and pop star Boy George.
Let the family time begin, and out first is Jonbers and Nanu Noir, starring as Vaudevillian sisters, I loved the act it was fun and comedic and they both looked gorgeous. Pixie and Trixie TrueLove are floating out as fairies. I loved the color palette, but that makeup on Wendy was just…choices. Strutting next is Danny Beard and Mizzy Moustache, that drag name is perfect and what can I say about the dress apart from I want it and I need it.
Cheddar Gorgeous and Brie Gorgeous mirrored each other’s look, aurora and they sold the garment on that runway together. Black Peppa and Chilli Peppa are joined by strands of pink pastel hair, the join representing family and new bonds. I loved the makeup, it was something different from Peppa but the dress was just a bit basic.
For me, Dakota and Brigitte Schiffer were my favorites, from the swinging sixties makeup, and the wigs, and that silky peach number was perfect. I really love Dakota’s aesthetic, and ‘Brigitte’ was identical which met the brief. Although Michelle remarks in the critiques that she’s beautiful, and pretty I do think they tend to just use that as a baseless remark. We’ve seen her be versatile during the show, but this along with Pixie’s critiques shows that she is at the bottom.
Back in untucked and it’s a little heated this week with Jonbers talking about her critiques. Talking about her diversity, and what her signature look is. It’s getting so close to the end and with just a few queens left it’s getting very tight to pick them apart. I would say this is a close top-six now so it’s hard to choose who to stay with and who to leave. But the bottom two this week and lipsyncing are Dakota and Pixie, lipsyncing to ‘Miss Me Blind’ by Culture Club. The lipsync was okay, compared to previous weeks it was a bit lackluster. Unfortunately, we say goodbye to Dakota Schiffer, which is a shame as I saw her in the top four. A superstar to the end, so there we go we have the top five already.
