RuPaul’s Drag Race was back for episode two this week and things heated up quickly. Within seconds of walking back into the workroom following Irene DuBois’ elimination, Robin Fierce and Amethyst had to explain their previous relationship. However, there wasn’t much to it. They briefly dated and the split was mutual. Hopefully, we don’t get a dragged-out storyline about this!
RuPaul wasted no time getting into it either. There was no maxi challenge this week. The queens were instantly told they would be competing in an acting challenge centered around heaven. Yes, the queens were in charge of creating their own heaven and making it into a commercial.
Anetra got to pick her team first for winning last week’s challenge. She chose Luxx Noir London, Sasha Colby, Salina EsTiitties, and Marcia Marcia Marcia. Amethyst, having survived the lip sync, got to select her team next. She chose Loosey LaDuca, Spice, Aura Mayari, and Princess Poppy. The queens who were not chosen, Jax, Sugar, Robin, Malaysia Babydoll Foxx, and Mistress Isabelle Brooks made up the third team.
It was time for the queens to film their commercial with Michelle Visage. The third team was instantly concerned for Michelle, who could tell they were in trouble. Team Anetra was not impressing her either as she gave Sasha guidance to improve her acting. Things didn’t improve, at least from Michelle’s point of view, when team Amethyst rolled into the studio. No one stood out during the filming process.
As the queens prepared to hit the runway, Malaysia opened up about her identity as a Christian and the stigma that comes with being queer in the church. However, her mom was supportive, which helped. Mistress Isabelle Brooks, sadly, did not have that support. When her mom found her wigs, she was kicked out of her home and tormented. She cut off all contact with her family by 17 years old.
The queens hit the runway in front of Ru, Michelle, Maren Morris, and the iconic TS Madison. The category was Metallica, which is a fun way to just say metallics. There were no misses on the runway this week, but my favorites were Sasha, Marcia, Luxx, and Salina- a street pole? What a concept.
When it came to the commercials, team Anetra did the best, while team Amethyst and team Leftovers (RuPaul said it, not me) fell flat, with the latter being nearly painful to watch, not to mention offensive to women drag fans. I get that it was poking fun at a certain group of drag fans, like the bachelorettes who drive us all nuts, but it rubbed me wrong anyway.
Salina, Anetra, Mistress, Robin, Spice, Sugar, Malaysia, and Aura were marked safe. Sasha, Luxx, and Loosey were in the top three, while Amethyst, Poppy, and Jax were in the bottom three. In the end, Sasha won the challenge, while Princess Poppy and Amethyst fell into the bottom two.
The pair faced off to Ain’t No Mountain High Enough by Diana Ross, Ru’s favorite performer of all time. No pressure! Though I personally think it was the wrong decision, Amethyst got to stay while Poppy sashayed away.
Are you with me that RuPaul got the elimination wrong again this week? Sound off in the comments below!
