This week’s episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race was the infamous makeover challenge, but there was a ton of drama before we could even get to the challenge. Following the elimination of Salina EsTities, the queens had to face the music about the names they chose to say on last week’s main stage. Loosey LaDuca struggled with Luxx Noir London’s statement about her drag being generic. The tension was intense in the workroom.
Thankfully it was a new day and RuPaul gave us a mini challenge. The queens had to answer questions about each other, which was fun. Loosey got the most questions right and won the challenge. Following the mini, the queens learned they would be making over five teachers. Loosey got to choose her teacher and pair the others. Luxx thought Loosey was sabotaging her by not giving her the only Black teacher, after the drama they had last week.
As the contestants were working with their teachers, they began bonding with them. Mistress Isabelle Brooks especially connected with her teacher, who is queer. Meanwhile, Sasha Colby and Anetra’s teachers were superfans of the show who were ready to give it their all on the main stage. Everyone seemed to work great with their partner, but Luxx was not as on board as the other queens.
Not only do the teachers have to get into drag for the first time and stomp the main stage, but they also have to perform a lip sync in front of the judges on elimination day. No pressure or anything, right?
It was time for the queens to hit the main stage in front of Ru, Michelle Visage, Ross Mathews, and Hayley Kiyoko. The makeover challenges are always so fun to watch unfold on the runway. Even if some queens and their partners didn’t have the best family resemblance, it was still heartwarming to see those teachers out there and having a great time.
When it came to critiques, it was clear Luxx was going to fall into the bottom. Instead of a family resemblance, she made her teacher look like Jennifer Coolidge. In any other circumstance, that would certainly be a compliment, but since the judges were looking for a drag family theme, Luxx fell short. On the other hand, Sasha and Anetra nailed the family resemblance.
Before any decisions were made, the teachers performed a lipsync for their lives. Not only was it great seeing the teachers perform, but it was also adorable watching just how supportive the queens were of their partners. This episode was so wholesome.
In the end, Anetra won the challenge while Luxx and Loosey fell into the bottom two. The often feuding duo faced off to For The Girls by Hayley Kiyoko. Both queens performed well and it was an entertaining battle, to say the least. In the end, Luxx stayed, while Loosey sashayed away.
