After a stunning Season 15 and a subsequent surprise-filled All Stars 8, MTV & Paramount + dropped some welcome news for the franchise’s global legion of fans; RuPaul’s Drag Race, RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars & Untucked will all be returning for brand new seasons. This year, RuPaul’s Drag Race has snagged nine Emmy-Award nominations throughout the franchise, the most for any reality competition this year. This year, Drag Race has crowned two separate winners for Season 15 and All Stars 8 (Sasha Colby and Jimbo respectively), and the franchise itself has continued their global drag domination with further international editions from Mexico to Germany, airing and being announced respectively. RuPaul & World of Wonder have also been busy behind the scenes making change, with the series launching the Drag Defense Fund, in partnership with the ACLU, a strong response to the legion of bills being proposed and passed, aimed directly at the LGBTQ community and drag performers everywhere.
With our country in seemingly unforeseen times of polarization, the Drag Race franchise returning is crucial. During our recent chat with Jimbo (after he was crowned the winner of All Stars 8, he referenced our communities history; “That is the work that has been done by generations before, queer people have been fighting, POC people have been fighting, people of all different marginalized communities have been fighting and that is what we will continue to do. What we need to do is continue to listen, be compassionate, and more forward with love”.
To kick off the fifteenth anniversary of the ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race‘ franchise, both Season 16 and All Stars 9 are poised to premiere in 2024.
