Hello, UK Huns! While Kristy is away on assignment, I will be filling in and recapping the wild world that is RuPaul’s Drag Race UK with you all. After Alexis Saint-Pete’s elimination and Ms. Naomi Carter’s triumphant lipsync victory, we are back and there is some drama!
Sure, the queens gave Banksie her flowers, but they had to get into the argument between Cara Melle and Tomara Thomas. If you recall, RuPaul brought up the issue on the main stage. However, the pair made up and the drama wasn’t as interesting as last week.
Ru entered the workroom and we finally got some good news, it’s girl group challenge week! The queens would split into two groups, create their own choreo, and design their outfits. Oh yeah, and they had to record their verses with no other than Michelle Visage.
Mama Ru wasn’t playing this season and made the girls separate themselves into their own groups. Naomi, Banksie, Kate Butch, Ginger Johnson, and the queen who cannot be named (Crystal Lubrikant) made up one team, The M-52s, while Cara, Tomara, DeDeLicious, and Michael Marouli, and Vicki Vivacious were the second group, and called themselves Fierce Force 5. The latter group seemed to have aggressively selected one another if I’m being honest. It was definitely the comedy girls vs the fashion girls.
The theme of the song was things that give you the ‘ick,’ titled Don’t Ick my Yum, to be exact. The best part came around – finding out who was a singer and who was not, not a singer. Vicki used to be in a girl group, so it was no surprise that she had the most solid vocals of the queens.
Fierce Force 5 had the choreo down. To quote Banksie, they were very Pussycat Dolls. While The M-52s were bringing more camp to their performance. So much so, in fact, that Ginger once asked if she could play the saxophone parts with her shoe. Just brilliant, in my opinion.
While getting into drag, Cara opened up about her experience as a trans woman of color and how her confidence has grown since finding her true identity. It was a wonderful conversation about acceptance and being your true self. Sending you love, Cara!
It was time for the girl groups to hit the main stage, where Ru was joined by Michelle, Graham Norton, and Sophie Ellis-Baxter, and the category was a night of 1000 pop icons!
Fierce Force 5 was strong. The group’s choreography was flawless. For The M-52s, they were pretty hilarious. Starting out with Naomi on the couch and Ginger playing her foot like a sax? Insanity in the best way. In case you missed it, Naomi hurt her knee in a boob-bumping accident and had to be a bit more stationary during the performance as a result.
For the runway, there were a lot of great looks! Vicki paying tribute to Freddie Mercury was fun, Tomara killed it as Elvis, Cara’s Beyoncé was stunning, and Banksie’s David Bowie was so good! We have to give Kate an honorable mention for pulling out all of the things that don’t impress her much out of her purse. Truly incredible detail. In the end, The M-52s were safe! While Fierce Force won the face-off, and the two top queens had to lip-sync for the challenge victory. It was between Tomara and Cara, who performed to Remember by Becky Hill and David Guetta.
In the end, got the badge, while Crystal was disqualified. What were your thoughts on the episode? I think they handled the Crystal situation wonderfully. What about you? Sound off in the comments below!
