Have we all dried our tears over the surprise elimination of the beloved Kate Butch? Last week’s episode was a shock, but Dedelicious has proved she’s a strong lipsync assassin having now sent home three people.
Well, it’s a brand new week where the semi-finalists are being told the next maxi challenge, and it’s a big one. They’ll be competing in the gladiator comedy roast, it’s bittersweet knowing this is something Kate would have excelled at. Nevertheless, there’s still a strong lineup of queens who can tackle this and will provide some worthy memorable one-liners I’m sure (not a joke just a fact anyone?)
Dede is worried about how she’s going to do, she’s a funny queen but with the likes of Tomara Thomas, Michael Marolui, and Ginger Johnson it really is the best of the best. As she won last week’s lipsync, it’s up to Dede to assign the running order, and Michael wants first place yet it goes to Tomara. Alas, they graciously accept the closing of the show position, if you’re confident and know you’re funny of course it doesn’t matter on the placement. Oh and if roasting each other isnt enough – they’ll be roasting the eliminated queens from season 5 who will make an audience appearance.
Helping them out for a masterclass 101 is the wonderful Alan Carr and he offers them some strong, structured feedback. He doesn’t leave them in the dark or vaguely give criticism, instead highlighting their strengths and working them through the weaker jokes they have. Joining them on the runway this week will be the Irish comedy queen Aisling B who I adore!
Get ready for the brutal roast delivered by these gladiators, all dressed in the classic 80’s, early 90’s wrestler attire. First out to open the show is Tomara, and as expected is wild, chaotic, and hysterically funny. All four smash the challenge, Dede delivered some good reads and got laughs from everyone, even proceeding to mock herself. It was Ginger Johnson who truly shone with joke after joke, she didn’t hold back and read every single person on the stage and panel. Michael Marolui followed suit yet this time, instead of reading from her cue cards chucked them and proceeded to steal the show.
What can only be described as the insides of a quality street chocolate box, the category is Poofs on Parade. The main stage is a mix and match of looks alluding to decadent Christmas wear. Dede looks similar to the gold caramel truffle that is addictively sweet. Tomara is seductively stunning in her mesh fishtail gown, and for me, she’s the standout in this weeks category. Ginger could not be more different and that’s what I love about Drag Race, she is pure British panto dame in a polka dot concoction. Finally, Michael truly is a quality street it looked like a chic sleeping bag, as it offered little shape and engulfed her.
The tough deciscions begin on who will place top and bottom, and with the judges deliberating the queens go back to untucked. Who should be there waiting? The eliminated queens although we’re down a queen, as Cara Melle is unwell. All of them are decked out in their best outfits, and Naomi Carters is a subtle little number showing her chest exposed with two delicately placed heart nipple pasties. Besides that, it’s a fiery discussion over mirror messages and the eliminated queens particularly Vicki Vivacious have a lot of things she wishes to get off her chest. Telling Dede she didn’t like her attitude and thought she was two-faced at the beginning leaving some sour words lingering. Ginger comes to Dede’s aid and says she’s not like that, which is true she doesn’t come across as malicious or calculating in the slightest.
Back on the mainstage, the deliberations are ongoing yet a decision has been made and the winner of the comedy roast is Michael Marolui. This means she’s won her third Rupeter badge and is through to next week’s final. Securing the next finale spot is Ginger Johnson leaving Tomara and Dede in the bottom two, and lipsyncing to Little Bird by Annie Lennox an interesting choice of song. Tomara performs seductive and sensual to match that dress of hers, Dede also puts on a great show too. I wouldn’t want to call it but if I did, I would use the track records like a coward. Which is what it boiled down to, and we say goodbye to the lipsync assassin Dedelicious. So we have our final three, and another season with a strong top three. Who will take the crown for season five? Let us know in the comments!
