Another week of RuPaul’s Drag Race, another set of new queens! In episode 2, we got to meet Hershii LiqCour-Jeté (whenever I see that last name I get excited), Plasma, Geneva Karr, Plane Jane, Megami, Mhi’ya Iman Le’Paige, and Nymphia Wind (best entrance look, right?). What a strong group!
For the first mini-challenge, the queens had a photoshoot at the SheMV with RuPaul, TS Madison, and Love Connie, This challenge was so good. I demand we get more content of TS Madison interacting with the queens in a DMV environment. She and Ru were riffing and I couldn’t stop laughing. All of the queens were on, too!
The winner of the challenge was Nymphia! Then, the group was told that they would be participating in the Queens Choice Awards, and they learned of the wild twist of the season. They too would be judging each other like the last group did. Except this bunch of queens enjoyed discussing strategy, possibly playing the game dirty, and making alliances. Fun!
As everyone was getting into drag, they started discussing who they had their eyes on. Plasma saw herself as an underdog, motivating her to get on stage and kill it. They started getting into their personal lives, and Hershii shared that she and her partner adopted his sister’s kids, who are 3 and 2 years old! Seeing the photos of her family was adorable, but she opened up about how hard it is to be gay parents. The climate we’re in is truly heartbreaking.
Following such a powerful conversation, Becky G walked in! She had some cute moments with the queens, especially Geneva, who is a massive fan of hers! I love watching the queens have time with their favorite celebrities.
It was time for the Queens Choice Awards. Ru was joined by Michelle Visage, Ross Mathews, and Becky G on the judges’ panel. Oh yeah, and Derrick Barry was back to host.
We have to talk about Hershii calling back to Anetra walking the duck during her performance. Talk about knowing what Ru likes and giving it to her. That performance was great. Magami’s performance encouraging people to support and protect queer art when they go to the voting booth was powerful. Nymphia’s cultural performance was beautiful. Mhi’ya had everyone gagging with her flips.
On the main stage, the category was Made You Look. It was a strong runway, but I thought Plasma’s look was the most creative, Nymphia and Geneva looked gorgeous!
It was time for the queens to rate one another! Jane chose to put the two queens she thought did the worst – Plasma and Mhi’ya– in the first and second place. She then put who she thought did the best in the bottom in an attempt to try to rig the numbers in her favor.
In the end, it worked. Jane and Geneva were the top two. Since no one was going home this week, the top two competed for the winning spot to Shower by Becky G! Plane Jane and her breastplate won the first challenge!
What did you all think of the episode? Sound off in the comments below. I can’t wait to see these two groups merge together next week!
