It’s fair to say Drag Race UK vs. The World really did take over the world last week; social media was awash with memes and laughter at how chaotic that opening episode was. Unfortunately, we did say goodbye to Ms. Mayhem Miller. Marina Summers tells the girls she wanted Gothy Kendoll to have the opportunity to showcase what we hadn’t seen yet. La Grande Dame seconds that notion, as she too had opted to save Gothy from elimination had she won the lip sync.
A new maxi challenge awaits, and we have Michelle Visage in the werkroom this week to guide the queens on what they’ll be enduring. A favorite challenge of mine, and it’s the sewing challenge, many queens may have taken a huge intake of fear, but some iconic moments come out of these episodes. Before the sewing commences, we take a little shady mini-challenge, in which the queens vote for who is the fairest of them all. Naturally, some feelings get hurt, particularly Jonbers Blonde, who the majority vote as someone who’s drag is the most neediest… ouch.
Following the mini-challenge, the fairytale continues with the queens invited to the Happy Ending Ball, consisting of three looks. The categories are: Lady Prince Charming, She-evil Queen, and the third Drag to Riches Eleganza, which is to be handmade out of the materials provided. This challenge is what hooked me into drag race, the creativity, regardless of who’s a seamstress or not. Tia Kofi has taken sewing classes; there’s an air of confidence among many in the room, or, as Hanna Conda says, just fake it until you make it.
Tia discusses her look with Choriza May, and it’s an incredibly heartfelt chat about her look that is dedicated to her fellow season 2 sister Cherry Valentine, who passed away in 2022. While she talks about what an inspiration she was to many, a lovely montage of Cherry plays alongside, and it’s so wonderful if not very emotional to see her honoured in this way.
Time for the runway, and our special guest this week is a supermodel, Adwoa Aboah, And are you ready for—and if my math is correct, 27 looks! There was so much talent on that stage; no one had a weak look, in my opinion. I loved Arantxa Castilla-La Mancha’s Mean Girls look; it was original and fun, even if the judges disagreed. But of course, without a doubt, La Grande Dame ate that stage up; she was made for fashion, and her alien look was breathtaking, leaving everyone shocked. The top looks for me this week were of La Grande Dame, Keta Minaj, and Marina Summers, who has never made a dress before yet proceeded to look like she’d stepped straight off a Disney princess parade.
Leaving the bottom two, Choriza May and Arantxa, the most heartbreaking duo to have up against each other. I wouldn’t want either to go; they both have so much to showcase, and their personalities are so captivating. It’s up to Keta and La Grande as the winners to decide who they’ll send packing. Both Choriza and Aranca are more upset about not being able to see each other next week due to their strong bond.
The lip-sync tune this week is Everytime We Touch by Cascada; they’re bringing out the 00’s classics this season, and these two queens could not be more different in their deliverance. La Grande goes humorous while maintaining glamour, and Keta goes full-blown high-energy with splits and drops. Another fabulous lip sync, with La Grand winning her first Rupeter badge and the power to send someone home. Unfortunately, La Grande chooses Arantxa Castilla-La Mancha’s to go home. I’m slightly disappointed, as she’s a wonderful queen with such a sunny personality that it would have been great to see more of her drag race journey. But alas, this is the game, so what did you think of this week’s fairy-tale challenge? Was it the fairest of them all?
