Just when we thought a strategic game would be arriving this season, it turns out Scarlett Envy in fact listened to La Grande Dame’s wise words in last week’s episode. Having chosen to send home the first U.K queen, Jonbers Blonde, although when asked, even Tia Kofi surprises us, and also chooses her UK sister to leave. Whether this is to throw the others off into thinking no alliance is in play we shall soon see.
Starting anew, and yes. It is that time, and as much as I think of the snatch game as a painful watch, this season’s game is getting a shake up. Firstly, the queens get to share with Rupaul who they plan to play and receive questionable advice. Poor Gothy Kendoll is made to showcase her Ozzy Osbourne choice had she made it to season 1’s snatch game. Rupaul taunts her to be loud, and it goes on for some time, leading to us at home collectively grimacing. For some reason, having Tia and Choriza May portray Henry VIII’s ex-wives gets edited to look like they’ll flop, as of course they both sashayed away on their respective seasons. But these two are funny, and if anything, they could and should play it to their advantage, so it was a weird narrative that was trying to be played out to us.
So, welcome to the family snatch game and joining us this week is Jane McDonald who is the head of the McDonald’s family. The second participant is 80’s pop icon Sinitta, head of the Sinitta family. Now, as we know, snatch game can be an awkward watch for many, myself included, but this was so fun, and the cringe factor bordered on a 5. The reason why it was a hit was because of Team Sinitta everyone say Thank you, Scarlett. That queen knew what she was doing, she balanced the personalities perfectly and gave Tia and Choriza their moment to redeem themselves. Also, Scarlett’s Statue of Liberty was hilarious, the beauty of portraying fictional characters holds many positives, as she proved tonight. Remember back in the days when fictional characters were forbidden to be played for snatch game? It panned out well the majority of the time, as the queens have the freedom to show their improv skills without any real expectations.
On the other hand, seeing La Grande not land with her humour is so disheartening. I was rooting for you, we were all rooting for you! After her werkroom talk with Ru, Gothy stuck with the cleaning guru, Kim Woodburn, and it was hard to watch. Some people just aren’t that loud, and that’s okay, but for this challenge, you need to amp it up. Marina chose to do Manny Pacquiao, which was good; however, we did see Melinda Vargo do the same character during Canada’s Drag Race season 5 just a few weeks ago. So it is difficult to not compare how they both chose to perceive him. It’s not that she did badly, it was that I don’t remember much of what she did. Whereas on the other end of the spectrum, Hannah Conda stole the show as Shirley Temple. Of course, we saw Jimbo do it in All Stars 8, however she brought a different side to it both proving to be iconic.
Whilst normally I’m always diplomatic (ish!) and say everyone should be a winner, or I can’t figure out who’s the tops and bottoms, I think this week it was obvious who did well. The theme this week is to reflect our extra special guest judge, Tom Daely. We’re going to get nautical on the runway, as Category is: Gone cruisin’ and these queens know how to hit the brief sailing. For me, La Grande Dame is every inch a French sailor fantasy, and as usual, Marina brings something different. On the other end, we have Gothy Kendoll, who is having a hard time. Landing at the bottom alongside Keta Minaj, questions are being posed to Gothy about whether she can continue to learn and grow throughout the competition.
The tops this week are Tia Kofi and Hannah Conda, and it’s up to them who they decide to send home packing. However, the bonus is that this week’s lip-sync track is a classic dance floor song and ironic, titled Crying at the Discotheque by Alcratraz. Both Tia and Hannah camp it up, performing together, and make it a fun watch. Tia’s redemption arc is a pure thing to see, and she’s declared the winner for this week’s snatch fame and lip sync, and her choice for who to send home is a shocking one. Say goodbye to Keta Minaj. Interesting choice; we shall see how well that lands amongst the queens in next week’s episode! So what did you think of the family snatch game?
