From spending close to fifteen years at the judges table sitting alongside RuPaul on RuPaul’s Drag Race, to writing her own autobiography The Diva Rules, to starring on stage as Morticia Adams at The London Palladium in The Addams Family last month, there is very little that Michelle Visage has not accomplished. Now, Visage is poised to take over hosting duties from RuPaul on Drag Race Down Under when the season returns for its fourth season (premiering on Stan in Australia and on WOW Presents Plus later this year).
Michelle Visage will be joined at the judges panel by the dynamic Rhys Nicholson, who is returning for their own fourth season as a Drag Race Down Under judge. Additionally, Season 4 will also have “additional seats being occupied by a rotating roster of Down Under queens throughout the season in addition to regular celebrity guest judges” according to the release. Recently, Visage joined several other Down Under alum, Kween Kong & Maxi Shield, at a RuPaul’s Drag Race UK vs The World viewing party at Sydney hotspot Universal to an absolutely roaring crowd.
Even though RuPaul might be departing as host of Drag Race Down Under (he will be remaining an executive provider), both the mutual love affair and professional respect between the two of them is evident. RuPaul told Variety “It has been my great honor to bring Drag Race to Australasia. I can’t wait to see the franchise continue to flourish under the leadership of the incredible Michelle Visage.”
Visage is equally thrilled to take the reins of the Down Under franchise, saying “As the ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ universe continues to expand, I am thrilled and honored to host ‘Drag Race Down Under’ Season 4. From my early days in the Harlem ballroom scene to the past 13 years as RuPaul’s head judge, I’ve loved and lived for drag queens. I’d do anything to help these extraordinaire queer artists share their charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent with the world.”
