If you’re bored of seeing the golden Rupeter badges, Hannah Conda is creating the Safe Girls group this week. Fashioning her own counterfeit badge to fit in with the other girls, I love her humour, and of course we said goodbye to Gothy Kendoll last week. Tia Kofi also reveals that she, too, had chosen to send her home. Choriza May is very thankful to both, proceeding to cry and apologise for sounding dramatic, but alas, she is Spanish, so it’s only natural that it sounds so theatrical.
This season has had such a varied mix of maxi challenges, and I think this one is another strong one to follow last week’s success. In pairs, the queens must perform a selected genre of dance, which are: tango, ballroom, and samba. Alongside that, they must be in masculine and feminine drag, which, of course, we saw on season 7, which was a fabulous episode. As Marina Summers won last week, she gets the power to assign teams and their dance. Instead of letting them choose, she selects them by height, which, in my opinion, makes sense and is fair. However, Tia Kofi is dubious after being paired with La Grande Dame, both being tall and long (I can’t relate), and she’s concerned for how it’s going to read onstage, or worse, if there’s a lift. But don’t fear; Marina assigns them Ballroom, and on the runway, Tia refers to herself and LGD as horses.
Teaching the queens how to dance away is Janette Manrara from Strictly Come Dancing, and she can only be described as the epitome of sunshine. I adore her, and joining Janette is her gorgeous husband, Aljaž Škorjanec. Both a delight, easing them all in gently and encouraging their small steps towards success. Choriza May and Scarlett Envy are tasked with bringing the Spanish flare to the tango, and they do a good job, as, of course, do Marina and Hannah Conda. Hannah is lucky to be paired with the dancing diva. However, it could act as a risk, as well as knowing how quick on her feet Marina can be. Yet everyone flourishes, and rehearsals once again are a joy to watch. Tia and LGD are beautiful gazelles trying to find their footing, but as viewers, you know they’ll excel at the challenge.
Back in the werkroom, the queens are shipping Tia and LGD’s alleged blossoming romance, which both are quick to dismiss, refusing to play into their storyline. While getting ready, a romantic Parisian adventure does look to be on the cards for the duo. Watch this space, I guess.
On the runway, the theme is ‘Business in the front, and party in the back.’ And we have the gorgeous Motsi Mabuse joining the panel this week. Strictly Come Prancing got tens across the board from me; it was a wonderful production, and everyone shone. Some more than others, but they all succeeded at their feminine and masculine drag. Marina and Hannah did a wonderful job, and it’s tricky to say who flopped per se, as with a cast this strong, it’s coming down to splitting hairs. Also, the concept for each runway outfit is so well constructed and conceptual. Of which the top two, as predicted, are Hannah and Marina! Leaving Scarlett and Choriza in the bottom two.
Lipsyncing to Agnes Release Me, and it’s such a fun watch. I did think it would be a double win, but I like to live in a place called delusion. Marina is declared the winner, and it’s with great sadness that she sends home our Spanish senorita, Choriza May. So two U.K. queens sent home in the space of two weeks, Tia It’s now up to you to compete on behalf of the U.K. What did you at home think about strictly come prancing?
