What’s better than a RuPaul’s Drag Race All-Stars season premiere? A TWO episode premiere, that’s what! And this season, the queens are competing for charity! Yes, the winnings will go back into a cause that means a lot to them. How incredible!
Now let’s go straight into it! Gottmik was first to enter the work room with my favorite look. She will be competing for Trans Lifeline this season. Next in was the doll herself, Roxxxy Andrews. She is hoping to win funds for The Miracle of Love in her hometown of Orlando. Then came none other than Vanessa Vanjie Mateo! Miss Vanjie herself, fighting to raise money for the ASPCA – a girl after my own heart. Next in was Angeria Paris VanMichaels playing for the National Black Justice Coalition. Coming in after Angie was Nina West, campaigning for The Trevor Project. Plastique Tiara entered next, fundraising for The Asian American Foundation. Do the Jorgeous, because she came in next! She’s competing for The National Alliance on Mental Illness. And last but certainly not least, the legendary Shannel came into the work room, fighting for the Anxiety and Depression Association of America. Everyone chose such amazing charities!
Oh yeah, and there are NO eliminations this week! However, winners of the challenges can cut off their fellow contestants from winning the following week. This matters, because the three queens with the most badges will compete to win an even bigger donation for their charity.
RuPaul wasted no time and made the queens instantly compete in a reading challenge. Gottmik and Roxxxy hit it out of the park, but it was Roxxxy who would take home the win! RuPaul then shared that the first challenge would require them to record their own song and choreo, and then perform it in front of Keke Palmer. No pressure, right?
The queens were excited to write powerful anthems, and Jorgeous was in charge of keeping their choreo in check. Of course, not everyone is a dancer, but they are not, not dancers. Shannel fell off the stage, so it wasn’t off to a great start.
On the mainstage, Ru was joined by Michelle Visage, Ross Mathews, and Keke! Before they took the stage and showed off their signature looks, signature frequences on the runway, RuPaul performed.
The queen’s original lyrics and performances were great! The runway was a fun twist on the typical first episode looks. Keke was an amazing guest judge. Can we keep her forever?
The top two All-Stars of the week were Angie and Jorgeous! This season, the winner of the lip-sync’s tip goes straight to their cause! They faced off (for charity) Million Dollar Bill by Whitney Houston. It was a great performance by both queens, but it would be Angie who would snag a cash tip for her charity of choice! The queen she chose to cut-off for next week was Roxxxy!
Don’t worry, we don’t have to wait for next week. Episode two was ready for us on Paramount+. RuPaul shared that we were already getting a ball episode. The categories for The Paint Ball include: Monochromatica, Drag Imitates Art – a look inspired by a famous work of art, and Paint Ball Eleganza – they would be creating a garment and hand painting it! How cool are these categories?!
Roxxxy was making a three-piece suit, leaving Angie confident in her decision to cut her off from winning this week! One of my favorite parts of the episode was hearing Vanjie describe her relationship with sewing. Sure, they get coffee together, but they are long distance friends. Roxxxy changed her tune from season 5, offering help to everyone in the room. We love character development!
Vanjie and Gottmik together could be a show within itself. These two running around with spray paint and eating fruit roll ups together? Brilliant. Meanwhile, Angie wasn’t confident in the first dress she made so she constructed a whole backup!
It was time for the queens to hit the main stage in front of RuPaul, Michelle, Ross, and Stephanie Hsu. I loved Vanjie’s tribute to Michelle in the monochromatica category. For the artist-inspired looks, Roxxxy, Gottmik, and Plastique looked incredible. Finally, the queens showed off the gowns they made. Angeria’s dress was her second creation, that means she made it on top of ANOTHER look she didn’t use! Roxxxy killed it, Mik’s was NEXT LEVEL, Plastique, are you serious?! Can you believe these queens? I can’t.
The top two all-stars of the week were Gottmik and Plastique! They took the stage to Jump in the Line by Harry Belafonte. I love the seasons where there are no eliminations because everyone is silly and having fun. It was a cute performance, and in the end, Gottmik was a winner, baby! Mik chose to give Angie the snip, which brought Roxxxy joy.
How do you all feel about this season so far? I think it’s so much fun! Let us know in the comments below!
