The queens were back in the workroom after Angeria Paris VanMichaels won her third challenge! Of course, they got right into the question – why did Angie cut off Gottmik? She didn’t have the most badges, nor was she doing all that well the last two weeks. Angie said she was following Plastique Tiara’s math about cutting off the queens who have the same amount of badges as them. Nina West called out that Mik didn’t have the same amount of badges as her with two. Anyway, Angie eventually shared that she was getting some revenge for cutting her in the earlier episodes. Of course, Jorgeous broke the tension by pretending to stir the pot by going up to each group while they were getting out of drag and saying, “the competition is really heating up right now.” I love her.
There was no better “it was a new day in the workroom” intro than the one Gottmik gave this episode. She broke a light bulb and Shannel was juggling. What more could you ask for? RuPaul came in soon after with a mini-challenge. The queens would be photobombing tourist destinations. Ru asked Vanessa “Vanjie” Mateo the most exotic destination she’d ever been to. Her answer? Burbank. I’m obsessed. Nina won!
For this week’s maxi-challenge, the queens would be creating runway eleganza that takes inspiration from one of Ru’s songs. The materials and songs were provided, then the queens had to make their own kind of music. Since Shannel was the first queen to ever enter the workroom, she got to pick first. She chose Hey Sis, It’s Christmas. She got to pick the queen to pick next, and she chose Angie, who picked Cake & Candy. Mik got to pick next and chose New Friends Silver Old Friends Gold. Vanjie first buttered up Ru by saying she loved all of her songs, then chose Kitty Girl, keeping with her ASPCA theme. Roxxxy Andrews picked next, choosing Lady Cowboy. Roxxxy passed the choice over to Plastique, who chose Star Baby. Then it was Jorgeous, who snagged I Bring the Beat, leaving Nina with Cha Cha Bitch.
Shannel’s strategy to get Angie to help her by choosing her first for the material choice paid off. As she struggled to create her outfit, Angie was there to help her. Meanwhile, Plastique was building a star-shaped train for her look. Nina was struggling to make gloves, so Roxxxy stepped in and helped her. Angie’s original look didn’t pan out, so she decided to make chaps, but so was Roxxxy. Chap sisters!
As the queens were getting into drag, they were talking about their drag children. Roxxxy has two, while Angie has 10! Shannel said she was like one of the Duggars, which was brilliant.
On the main stage, the queens would be showing off their designs in front of Ru, Michelle Visage, TS Madison, and Jeremy Scott. Plastique’s look came together perfectly. Mik looked amazing. Shannel, as the queen of Christmas, had fun on the runway and I thought it made her outfit even better! Roxxxy’s look was everything to me. Everyone did great!
Before they got into critiques, Ru shared that this was the LAST week of the ruby snippers! Of course, the top two of the week were Plastique and Roxxxy! They faced off to No One Gets the Prize by Diana Ross. Roxxxy’s old school drag approach to this song was perfect. In the end, she was the winner! When it came time for the snippers, it was Angie who got the cut. She was a good sport about it!
What did you think of this week’s episode? What a strong design challenge!
