Welcome back Cap!
When the trailer for “Captain America: Brave New World”dropped, I really had no clue what to expect or what direction it may go. The Marvel Universe has felt so hyper focused on X-Men 97 and Deadpool (no complaints) that this completely slipped my mind. There have been little Marvel glimpses re-emerging in Fortnite, so there’s a lot of things brewing in the Marvel Universe.
Soon as this trailer starts we see the White House, there’s no mistaking it. Harrison Ford (Taking over Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross for the late William Hurt) has secured another presidency after telling terrorists to “GET OFF MY PLANE!” in what I assume was a true documentary called “Air Force One”.
The tension between Sam Wilson and Ross is obvious, and it’s quickly revealed they’ve had some different ideologies in the past as to how Captain America should operate, as we get this brief interaction the scenes start to cut to a short montage. We see Giancarlo Esposito’s unconfirmed character emerge with an extremely large assault rifle and he looks like it’s not his first rodeo.
Immediately, and in odd timing based on current events…there is an assassination attempt on Thunderbolt Ross at what looks to be an election rally. Isaiah Bradley, last seen in the Disney+ series, “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”, is shown manhandling those around him, taking a shot, and fleeing out a window.
Cut back to Cap, Sam Wilson is doing his best to explain that Thunderbolt has a leak somewhere inside, an inside person…people around him and possibly closest to him are out to get him.
We get another montage filled with action, a continuation of that first sequence it feels like. Cap and Thunderbolt banter back and forth, and suddenly we get to see the full suit. I’m honestly underselling those action sequence they give us glimpses of, they look and feel massive in scope.
Speaking of massive in scope…after we get all these teasers and glimpses of action, we suddenly get a RED HULK. OMFG!
Absolutely shocked they hit that visual at the end of the trailer, however given that the rest of this felt like a Spy/Thriller type film a la Winter Soldier, getting that glimpse of Red Hulk next to Cap’s shield just gets your undivided attention.
Now the question…is Red Hulk friend or foe? Is Giancarlo Esposito playing GW Bridges? Will my taxes go up because of the events at the White House and the mounting repair costs?
It’s a near perfect teaser that leaves me with far more questions than answers, but what do you think?
As always, continue to make mine Marvel
