Is everyone okay after last week’s extra emotional episode? We still have no elimination, and I would be okay with no one going for a little while as this cast is so fun to watch. The mini-challenge this week is a sack race with a difference: running to get into quick drag, they’re to get their biggest breasts strapped on and race across the werkroom in berlap sacks. Bizarre but brilliant. Beating the girls is Khianna, and due to hergetting the advantage of choosing who is to be on her team for the girl groups. She chooses wisely with Angel, Versex, Popstar Bench, and Maxi, leaving J. Quinn, Myx Chanel, John Fedellaga, Tita Baby, and Yudipota for the second group.
The queen’s take to the stage to record their lyrics with pop sensation Angeline Quinto, as expected, some soar and some struggle to get that pop dive moment vocally. When it comes to the Hard fu-cockers recording moment, I am in love with how J. Quinn is really taking this like a K-pop music bank showdown as the leader as they do their group introduction to Angeline.
Shortly after recording is finished, it’s time to create choreography to match the intensity of the lyrics, and it’s the usual intimidating story arc of one group being stronger than the others. Which usually tries to sway who could lose and who will shine; it does get a bit predictable but enjoyable nonetheless.
Time to hear the new Drag Race pop bop, Dapat Pakak! (Don’t Fuck It Up), and first out is Team Burakpak, who arrive in cohesive outfits made of garish green, which does work nicely. But poor Versex is on a struggle bus and is lacking the same energy as the others; as seen in rehearsal, she isn’t a dancer, and the girls did slow the pace for her to keep up. Also, her outfit does stick out for the wrong reasons, perhaps trying to be seen as the Beyonce of the group in a contrasting sequin number; it draws your eye to her more. Considering how much they tried to intimidate the other group in rehearsals, they killed it.
Next out are Hard fu-cockers with a point to prove after the high tensions in the werkroom after their disagreements with the other girls over attitude and feelings. We must remember Drag Race is a crockpot of bubbling emotions ready to explode any minute. Though these girls aren’t afraid to air out grievances and will happily keep the drama rolling at all times.
Whilst this group is good, J. Quinn really shouldn’t have pitched herself as the K-pop girlie who loves A-pop. I had high hopes, as K-pop lovers know the intense choreography and fun needed to deliver onstage. Missing her words and zoning out slightly, she did stand out for the wrong reasons.
The runway this week is the most fun yet. ‘Runway is Per-Yeah! (Carnival.)’ It has lit such creative ideas to the stage, and also the background of the stage is lit like a circus tent. It would be cool for the US, UK, and Canada to do the same, as it really makes the runway come to life. It’s hard to pick a fave this week, as everyone does such an excellent job. John Fedelllaga and Khianna stick out for their interpretations; it is definitely a hard week to judge who will be on top. Although in a team they are to be judged individually. Whilst on stage, John tells a very traumatising story that sends everyone into shock; some terrible things have happened to them, and they are a superstar for surviving and still being a ray of sunshine in this competition. When I tell you watching Drag Race Philippines is not for the emotional, I mean it. Not an episode has gone by where tears have not been shed by Mama Pao, the contestants, and myself included.
The winner of this week is Maxi, and our queen of the universe is killing this competition, leaving Myx Channel and Versex at the bottom, which I’m shocked by. Both are exceptionally talented and do think the wrong choices were made. The song of the night is Miss Manilla by Angeline Quinto. Myx Chanel makes use of every part of the stage whilst dipping, splitting, and chucking herself about; what I’ve learnt is that I need to see her live asap. We unfortunately say the first goodbye to the fashionista Versex. Do you agree with who went home this week?
