Well, last week was quite a dramatic episode wasn’t it? Yudipota decided to send herself home, leaving a mirror message asking her future self to forgive her. As always, Drag Race is a pressure cooker, and sometimes it’s best to leave when things get too intense. In the werkroom, the claws, gloves, and everything else are unleashed on poor J.Quinn. The sad part about someone walking out is that the person left onstage of course goes through, thus no one knows who really won. These queens decide to call J.Quinn annoying and fake, with Khianna and Angel going in on her. It seems a bit OTT in my opinion, if someone is annoying and unworthy of being in the competition, then they won’t last long. It seemed unprovoked and unfair, but Popstar Bench steps in to remind them to put this energy into the challenges and themselves, which I completely agree with.
Mama Pao introduces this week’s mini-challenge, which is every 90’s kid’s dream, they must get into quick drag and get prepared for a photoshoot. The theme is 90’s notebooks that featured your favourite celebrity on the front cover. Everyone does such a good job, and BJ Pascal is back to work his camera magic. For me, Angel, Khianna, and Maxi do a great job of capturing the magic of the aesthetic. The winner for the mini-challenge is Khianna once again, who is becoming the front runner in this department. We say goodbye to BJ in that good ole weird fashion once again – by collectively tossing him in the air. The rituals for the show and its guests are so weird but I love it.
For the maxi challenge, it’s time to play the Snatch game. With international seasons it can be chaotic to watch purely for missed cultural references, but I prefer them to the American versions. They tend to be more campy and over the top, and they choose more out there characters. Mama Pao also announces this week’s runway is Gosh With The Wind, a classy editorial look is essential.
Playing the Snatch game alongside the queens this week include teen heartthrob singer and actor Kyle Echarri and fashion designer Jon Santos. There isn’t a single impersonation I know on this panel, but everyone seems to be having a good time. Khianna as Baron Geisler and Angel as Maria Banalara play the game well by flirting and bantering throughout which is an excellent way to play the game. Another star is Tita Baby as Mama Tayan (grim reaper), and again, while I have no idea what is going on, she is a lot of fun to watch. Although Zymba Ding’s character never took off, it felt well prepared. The middle of the game descends into half nakedness and wild antics. This is how all snatch games should be, everyone has fun and doesnt take it too seriously.
Getting ready for the runway J.Quinn and Angel have a heart to heart about exchange of words earlier. They air everything out and have a very honest and open conversation resulting in “I love you’s” and time for a clean slate. For this week’s runway, the wind machine is a girl’s best friend, bringing their outfits to life and making them all look gorgeous. Myx Chanel had a different concept as a weather lady on the scene in a storm. John Fedellaga, is every inch a Victoria Secrets showgirl on the runway. She always understands the assignment, and knows how to work the runaway while looking stunning. Mama Pao declares that “This has been one of the best snatch games in the franchises history” to which the judging panel give a standing ovation.
Angel is an absolute star and was made for TV, as she and guest judge Kyle banter back and forth as she reveals her teenage crush. He walks her back to untucked as they laugh about how they appear wedding-ready. The humour on this show is top tier. The tops are Angel and John, but the win goes to Angel who finally has her shining moment and a well deserved win. This week’s bottoms are J.Quinn, and Zymba Ding, with Myx Chanel safe. Lip Syncing to Geronoimo by Rupaul is a great song and intriguing choice because we rarely see a Rupaul song featured for lip syncs. Zymba rips her top off, revealing bare skin, and the whole routine is a theatrical performance featuring props and a water show. On the other side we have J.Quinn performing sword choreography, there is never a dull moment on this show. Unfortunately, we say goodbye to J.Quinn, who is told to sashay away. So, what did we think of this season’s Snatch Game?
