Direct from the glorious country of Brazil, Miranda Lebrão’s path from Drag Race Brasil to RuPaul’s Drag Race Global All Stars is truly, a full circle moment. For Global All Stars, Lebrão delivered exactly what we have come to expect from this talented queen, dynamic talent and gloriously vibrant looks. I caught up to chat with this Brazilian beauty to dish about all things Global All Stars, what it was like walking the runway in front of RuPaul, and the piece of advice that she carries with her to this day.
MC: Once you saw the entire Global All Stars cast assembled, the talent was probably overwhelming. Is there one queen that you were absolutely excited to see and work with?
M: I was really excited when I saw the whole group and met them, but the first time I thought that they would be excited to meet me! I am Brazilian and I carry the Brazilian fans and for me, I was seeing myself as part of the group. I was not trying to be a fan, although I am a fan of a lot of the girls. For me it was like, I want to see myself and take in the position that I was given and see myself as part of the group. I have to say Eva Le Queen, she is so perfect, so talented, and so dedicated. Seeing her in person was like meeting my cousin; they say that Brazil and the Philippines are like cousins from different countries. For me, it was like a really emotional meeting.
MC: As a Brazilian queen, is there a distinct part of the Brazilian drag culture that you wanted to be sure that you showcased on the Global All Stars stage?
M: I was prepared to show and I think that I did, how diverse we are. I am not the most talented dancer, but if I have to dance I will do it gracefully. If I have to act, you can see that I am a good actress. If I have to do comedy, I will do that. The diversity of talent, for me that was one of my biggest Brazilian characteristics.
MC: Watching your moment on Drag Race Brasil when you got your first badge, you were just absolutely thrilled. Are there any pinch me moments like that for you on Global All Stars?
M: Oh yes! Winning the badge in Brasil was very important for me because I had made a promise to my team who was waiting at home. I had promised them that I would bring at least one badge back and when I got the badge, I was thinking about how much my team worked with me to get me to Drag Race. I was celebrating my team’s work in that moment. When I got to the very first runway and I saw RuPaul, that was like winning another badge. I knew that that moment would follow me all my life; I can still hear here saying my name for the very first time. I loved to seeing her saying “Miranda” how she does it; for me hearing Ru say my name like that, that is my badge.
MC: It must be beyond a treat for you to be able to present your passion for drag to RuPaul, because we forget that everyone does not get that opportunity initially.
A: I knew that it would be a huge moment for Brazilian fans, we have watched and received American queens for the past seventeen years. That moment when I got on the runway and I saw Ru for the very first time and she said my name…that was the circle being fully completed. It was really special.
MC: Your background contains everything from acting to engineering. Do you think that those skills
M: Oh yes, it was helpful to me in both Global All Stars and in life. I had to become a really diverse person and I have always had to take care of myself from a very young age. I still do that with my work as a drag queen, people sometimes forget that now we can work with designers, makeup artists, and hairstylists, but we have to do that all by ourselves. Now I am preparing my own show and I am doing choreography, writing and preparing things. I am still working as a multi-diverse artist and I think that it’s helping me in life as it did in Global.
MC: You mentioned you are working on your own one woman show. Is this the next step in your career?
