The episode starts on a sombre note, with the queens incredibly upset about Srirasha Hotsauce’s departure last week. Gathering to not only comfort Spicy Sunshine, who is beside herself with emotion, while the others express their sadness, feeling that Srirasha may have given up.
Tears aside, it’s a new week, and time for a new attitude as Pangina greets us in the most bizarre outfit—complete with whirring windmill wings! She clarifies that a true drag superstar must embrace all genders and lifestyles. In 15-minute quick drag, the queens are to transform themselves into G-drag (Old Gangster). Which sets the stage for the maxi challenge: girl groups… hurray! This mini-challenge is reminiscent of season six’s US Oh no, she betta don’t set, very 90’s aesthetic with a delightful dash of cringe on the side.
We’re all familiar with the format; in two groups, each team will be expected to write their own lyrics and create choreography to this season’s hit Sip Sip Sip. They will record their verses with Badmixy. As the challenge winner, Benze Diva gets a cash prize, and, along with runner-up Frankie Wonga, gets to choose their team mates. Benze selects Gigi Ferocious, Zepee, Nane Sphera, and Siam PhuSri. With Frankie’s team made up of Spicy Sunshine, Gawdland, Shortgun, and Kara Might.
The girls gather to brainstorm their lyrics and come up with group names, with team Benze going for Gurlden Flowers and team Frankie opting for Mean Gays. When it comes to the recording session, guided by Badmixy, she offers great feedback. Kara looks poised to shine, being told she’s bringing Nicki Minaj energy with her performance. But as usual with a storyline, we never know how they pan out in the challenge.
Hitting the stage with their new bop hit, Sip Sip Sip, both teams did a great job, but Gurlden Flowers were the standouts. They were cohesive and really looked like a girl group, and as always, you can count on the Asian franchise to drop a genuinely good pop number that you’d actually want to listen to.
This week’s guest judge is one of my favourites, Mama Pao! The runway theme is: “I don’t have a sugar daddy; I am the sugar daddy.” And I have so many questions, starting with, why? Whoever decided this category made a choice, as all the looks sort of blended into one with no one in particular standing out for me; it didn’t feel like a good night, look wise. They tried to switch up with something we’ve not seen before, which I applaud, but overall it didn’t quite land for me. While I could see the vision many of them were aiming for, it never quite hit the mark. Kara Might was the only one that took it outside the box and decided to be a sugar baby who carried a picture of her deceased sugar daddy, although it could be because I’m slightly biased because, well, it was an outfit in head-to-toe pink.
The winning team this week is Gurlden Flowers, but there is only one winner this week, which goes to Zepee. Before the winning team leaves for untucked, Siam PhuSri is read by Pangina for her make-up and told to fix it and improve for next week. Pangina then asks Mean Gays, “Who should go home and why?” The overall vote is for Kara, with her performance being wobbly being the main reasoning as there were a few mistakes throughout. The decision for the bottom two falls down to Kara Might and Spicy Sunshine lip-syncing out to Fah Rak Pho by guest judge Badmixy. After a great lip sync, Spicy Sungine dominates again and sends Kara Might home.
