Already an established and dynamic performer globally, La Voix joining the cast of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK this season was a game changer. Whether it was a brilliant roast performance or arguably one of the most emotional moments seen on the Drag Race UK runway, La Voix made definitive Drag Race UK herstory this season. While she did not snag the crown, I sat down with La Voix post-elimination to dish about her Drag Race UK experience, the love her father is receiving & her possible stateside plans!
Michael Cook: Tell me about your RuPaul’s Drag Race UK experience all the way around..
La Voix: I started Top Two and ended Top Two. That’s basically all the way round. A few buckets of water in the middle, but I never bottomed out!
MC: The reaction from your competitors was palpable when you walked into the Werk Room. Did you find your experience to be an advantage or did it put more pressure on you?
LV: I was so excited to hang out with my fans on that show. All the contestants were amazing, I would mention them by name if I could remember them. The pressure to live up to the reputation was intense, but then I saw Kiki (Snatch) on the runway and thought “It’s going to be fine”.
MC: What would you consider your rose and thorn of your Drag Race UK journey?
LV: My rose moment was my roast for me, it was my most fun day, my thorn was playing Liza. All those jazz hands for hours gave me mild arthritis in my wrists.
MC: The challenge with your father went viral, specifically his words on the main stage. What was getting that reaction like for both you and him? How has it changed your relationship since airing?
LV: Well he’s hired security, blocked all family calls and still wearing heels. He’s adoring his new found status and most importantly wants to continue to be an example of love and acceptance. The reaction has being amazing. As my dad turns 80 next year, I’m so glad he has this new found fame late in life.
MC: What’s next for La Voix post Drag Race UK? We have new music coming I hear?
LV: Yea I do! I’m releasing an entire EP of original music which I’m so proud of, it’s going to be epic. Throw into the mix my sold out West End concerts and tv appearances and it’s by no means a going to be quiet year!
MC: You’ve had so many amazing experiences as La Voix. Is there any one thing you would like to accomplish as a Drag Race alumni that you have not done already?
LV: Vegas baby! I might have to strangle Barry Manilow to free up a venue, but a Vegas run would be my dream.
MC: What is the best piece of advice that you got before your Drag Race journey and from whom?
LV: Take a spare suitcase to the Werk Room… so you can steal more. From an Anonymous friend…
