We love a recurring challenge, don’t we girls? This week’s episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race featured the infamous RDR Live! Sketch show. But first, the queens returned to the workroom following the elimination of Joella. After a close call in the bottom, Kori King was motivated to win a challenge. Onya Nurve celebrated her win, but Crystal Envy was a bit unhappy that the win wasn’t her. Arrietty also struggled with her critiques and didn’t think she should have been in the bottom.
It was a new day in the workroom and Jewels Sparkles asked who the piggy of the week was going to be. What is a piggy, you may ask? A queen who eats and leaves no crumbs, of course. RuPaul entered and let them know that they had a short time to pick their scenes and go live for this week’s challenge, RDR Live!
Suzie Toot wanted to play the character of Ru’s babysitter, Rhonda, who was described as a cigarette mom, and Suzie knew she could do it. For the most part, the picking of characters went well. Crystal and Lana Ja’Rae wanted the same role, but they were able to work it out. Lydia B. Collins and Hormona Lisa wanted the same character, Gert, who was a Golden Girls-inspired character. Hormona let Lydia have the role.
As a Saturday Night Live! Nerd, I loved how Lexi Love really wanted to pull inspiration from the current Weekend Update crew. Lexi, Crystal, and Suzie were working together for their scene, and since Suzie has a background in sketch comedy, she was leading the group. Lexi felt like her opinion wasn’t taken into consideration, but they worked it out.
It was fun watching Hormona understand what beaver meant in the context of their podcast sketch. Meanwhile, Acacia Forgot and Lydia were working together on the Golden Girls-inspired sketch. Turns out, Lydia isn’t that familiar with the show, so that wasn’t great!
Onya took on the role of both a character in the cold open and the host with the monologue. In the cold open, she shined, while Arrietty and Kori’s comedy didn’t hit as well. For the monologue, she also did a great job. We’ve seen how that didn’t work out so well in the past. Sam Star, Hormona, and Jewel’s sketch was neck, a play on Schweddy Balls, and it was fun! Hormona did really well, redeeming herself as a comedian on the show!
RuPaul was the musical guest again. Lexi, Crystal, and Suzie’s segment was strong. Suzie was incredible as Ruth, RuPaul’s former babysitter. The Golden Girls-inspired sketch made me confused because I couldn’t stop thinking of the actual show and how the characters didn’t sync up! I get that this is not important but it felt like it was to me!
Lexi had some fun mirror moments while they were getting in drag. She mentioned how she coined the term Kumbaya Girls for the sweeties like Lydia and Suzie who don’t get caught up in the drama. She also shared that she teaches bankers how to spot money laundering as her day job, and I couldn’t get over them showing her LinkedIn profile.
On the main stage, Ru was joined by Michelle Visage, Ross Mathews, and Paul W. Downs. The runway category was Pretty in Pink. I loved Arrietty, Lana, Jewels, and Lexi’s looks, but my favorite was Suzie’s! So fun.
It was time for the judges’ critiques. Onya, Hormona, and Suzie were the top queens of the week, while Arrietty, Lydia, and Sam fell into the bottom. Everyone else was safe. Suzie took the win, making herself the first queen of the season to snag two victories! Lydia and Arrietty fell into the bottom two.
You know those moments that seem too intimate for the public to witness? That was what it felt like watching Ru take in Lydia’s performance to Boogie Wonderland by Earth, Wind, and Fire and The Emotions. This was such a fun performance to watch, but I think it was obvious Lydia was going to be safe.
However, it wasn’t the end for Arrietty. She could badonka dunk her way back into the competition, and she did! Thankfully for Michelle, and the rest of the cast, this was the last save it had to offer. I’ll see you next week for the ball!
